    PCIII or Map 2 first?

I've got a PCIII on order for my 04 RSVR and wanted to know whats the best way to do things. Should I wait until I put me race cans on and get map 2 sorted then install the PCIII or just bung the PCIII in now?

I guess I'd have to remap the PCIII once I put race cans on anyway yeah?
Also can you install the map two, via the axone machine, without having put the race cans on? I intend to stick race cans on but was wondering if I can get map 2 done while the bikes in the shop on friday.

    Cheers

Map-2 will make the bike run rich with stock cans.
Switch to Map-2 and install cans at the same time.

A PC3 doesn't do much for you without a custom map made for your bike on a dyno with a competent operator (see Ken's post about "exhaust dyno shootout").

Also make sure to get the updated software for your ECU, 664584 if it's an early bike or 664583 if a later one.

Your bike must be tuned and running perfectly before spending the money on a PC3.

Well I gathered that running map 2 would be a tad rich without race cans..and having the PCIII set up after map 2 would iron out this until I had race cans at which point I would get another map done anyway.. I have access to a very competent tuner and dyno so I'll see what the craic is..

Oh and if a bike is tuned and running perfectly why would ya put a PCIII in there? I thought a PCIII was there to sort out fuelling, economy, sensitivity etc..

They actually have a map for this at

    http://www.powercommander.com/maps/04Mille/m908-501.exe

    ------
2004 Aprilia RSV Mille European model
    Stock exhaust
    Stock air filter
Stock ECU set to Map 2 (race mode) by Aprilia dealer
    ------

If you open it up in the PC application, you'll also see it's leaned quite a bit.

When properly tuned with the correct map installed the 04s run perfectly IMHO.
They are very sensitive to throttle body synchronization.
The PC3 is for those who want that extra little bit for track use.

    !

Yes, definately get the throtle bodies synced. That and the new map made a world of difference on my bike.
Then when I added the PC III and custom map, it was like somebody swapped bikes! 134 RWHP 76 Ft. Lb.

If you do the PCIII with the zero map and stock cans it will backfire quite a bit....I ran the PCIII for a week or so before I got a custom map.

Try all the maps, I know that some say you need a custom one for your bike. But you might find one on the web that works just fine. Last summer Dynojet did not have ANY maps for US bikes on their site and limited maps for Eurobikes with a small cross section of exhausts.

The map database has since been expanded. I git a custom map because none were available...

The problem with all the PC3 maps available for download is that no none knows if they where created on bikes with the correct Aprilia Map-2.
The only one I think was done correctly is the Scott2Ride PC3 map, he had it re-checked to confirm.
I'm sure there are others that are correct but how would one verify it?

Backfiring and flat spots are the symptoms of the wrong Map-2.

All the UK RSV maps were done with the ecu in Map2, I know this because they borrowed our Axone to do it.

Dynojet are releasing a plug in module that will allow you to Map a 2004RSV even if it is in Map1.

Most tuning centres have had the info from Dynojet already.

I realize that Dynojet and others created the PC3 maps on top of the Aprilia map-2.
What we don't know is if that was the defective 664582 map-2 or the updated 664584/83 map-2.

All the dealers I've questioned in my area where unaware of the updated ECU software, They had never heard of the Aprilia Technical Announcement # 10-2004, dated 11 March 2004.

I still say that the PC3 maps available on the web are all invalid unless someone can verify which map-2 was on the bike to begin with.

Good thinking, I forgot about that, probably the maps done in the last 8-9 months will be the latest software version, that's about when we updated the Axone.

I think Dynojet need to start afresh with the library maps for the RSV 2004.

I,ve got quite a few maps done with the updated software on the dyno pc if anyone wants me to e-mail them.
