    more comfort?

I have just recently purchased a new ( left over) 02 mille r and was wondering if anyone has had any experience good or bad with aftermarket clip ons ( heli-bars, woodcraft etc.) I went to my local dealership with every intention of buying a Tuono but I fell for the old R and he made me a deal I couldn't refuse, however I do alot of spirited touring and would like a little less of a reach, if possible,

    Congrats on the new bike!

I have the Heli risers on my 01 and find them to be very comfortable. They have a wide feel which gives pretty good leverage. The only issue I have with them is that your "lock to lock" range is less than stock and if you turn the handlebars too much your hands will hit the front fairings. Other than that, they are very good quality and I find them to be a good deal more comfortable than the stock ones.

I echo EZ's comments. I just put over 4000km thru the Alps on my 01 RSVR, no problems at all. If you go to the helibars.com website you will see a pic I submitted to them a few years ago. Its the R on a German/Austrian pass - they even paid me for it!!
Other than the cash, I'm a big fan of the bars. There was some adjustment and compromise to get the bars just right - you still get a little less lock to lock than with stock, but higher and a bit farther back means they lever over easier and the height suits my (broken) back better.

    Thanks guys for the info

When you mentioned that lock to lock is decreased, does any part of the bars contact the fairing/tank or is it just the hands ( when manuvering through a parking lot or pushing the bike aroungd the garage)
Also, did you have to replace the brake/clutch lines, the helibars website says you don't but with the distances they are talking about moving, it seems they will be kinda tight.

I added the Helibars to my '02 R, and I didn't really lose lock to lock clearance. I accomplished this by raising the fork tubes one more line in the clamps, and adjusting the brake/clutch levers. The levers make no contact with the fairing, and the bars miss the tank by about 1 mm. My fingers will touch the fairing on either brake or clutch if I don't shift my hands outward slightly at full lock.

The riding position is improved with a wider, flater bar position. Though the position isn't much taller than stock, mayber 1/2" after raising the fork tubes, the angle improves the ride quite a bit for me.

I kept the stock clutch and brake lines. Just follow the directions on the clutch, and pop the line out of the plastic carrier. I also did away with the clamp on the brake line just above the point where it splits from one to two lines. This gave a bit more play.

gilles tooling in germany do the vario bars ( even with optional extensions)

we've sold quite a few, and everybody is very happy about them.
    finish is also immaculate.

I don't have a problem with the bars or levers touching the fairing or tank, but your hands definitely will if you go lock to lock. If I have to make a hard lock to lock style turn, I grab the outer edge of the bar in order to keep my hand from hitting the fairing.

I really appreciate the information and am sure I will have questions in the future ( being a new mille owner ) as I hope to do some mods over the winter months

Can't believe I bought a new bike going into winter...such torture
    WHAT WAS I THINKING!

I'm a fairly new owner myself and have found this forum to be quite informative. As far as winter goes, think of it as time to do some mods and get it ready for you for when summer comes along.

Either that or you could always move to a place with good riding weather all year round.
