I just changed my gear oil, after a run, I find out that the gear oil is slighly below the middle of the glass window, I have put in exactly 600cc, should I top up?

i always stick an extra 100 cc's in mate, to bring it up to the middle of the window

A mechanic at my dads shop said they always put 800cc in. Apparently they do the gearbox in if you only put 600 in?? I can't really see that, but anyway it won't do it any harm putting 800 in so I dont care.
