    Hi!

    Hi guys!

I just put a deposit down for a new rs 125 today to become one of u lot!

Just wanted to introduce myself and ask a question...

Is there anybody in my area? Im from Milton Keynes.

and also i was rather confused today, as the salesman said that a de-restricted rs would be over 33 bhp, he said he wasn't sure but is this true? i would be rather fooked if it was as i only have a restricted license! what is the restricted power of a new rs then? and are all new bikes restricted?

cheers! and hi to everyone again!

Hello Dai and Welcome. First of I dont have an rs125 anymore, now I got an RS250, but while I had it for 10 months I really did enjoy it.

Now for your questions ; An aprilia rs125 fully powered with a powr valve will make 33hp but if its restricted you are looking at 14-15 hp

Some bikes come restricted and some dont, the dealers usually are responsible for restricting them.

Good luck & welcome once again.

    Noises

I was absent mindedly making the NWAAAHHHH noise on my puch bike this morning, passing a load of school girls. There went my aura of cool. And I don't even own a motorbike, yet.....

ha thanks for the welcome guys.

im still rather confused about the restrictions though, spanair u mentioned that it makes 33bhp with a power valve? im not quite sure what it is, isn't it a restrictor kit that is already on the bike? im just concerned as i can't let it exceed 33 horses do u mind explaining the restrictor kits to me please! like how many there are and what i have to do to make it 33 horses or below!

    cheers - and thanks again

    Re: :)

If your bike has been fitted with a power valve then it is (partially) de-restricted. Also if a bridge in the CDI unit in the seat pod is cut then it is fully de-restriced (33bhp) however with no powervalve and no modified CDI then it will do about 75mph, cut the CDI bridge and it will do about 95mph, add a powervalve and it will do 110mph. As far as restricting goes I dont think you can change the CDI modfication so you wont be able to get the 15bhp. However you could remove the powervalve (if fitted) but you may aswell keep the speed hehe.

    erm

    to clear it up.
Powervalve. its valve meaning it goes in and out to let things in or out.
IF its restricted it will not come with one or it will be disconnected.
the powervalve opens to let more gases out of yer engine so u go wee bit quicker and closes when u going slower it opens and that according to how many revs ur doing.u dont need to know anymore bout them althought they need cleaning evry 200kilometers of riding around or so because coke build up on it and it can sumtimes get stuck and stop working.
CDi is this box that makes ur bike go slower also. when u get it let us know how fast it goes then will tell u if u need to de-restrict that or not. its a simple DIY job.
about ur license. ride it with 33bhp even if its illegal i do it and so do most peeps in the forum. if u dont have a restricted A1 motorcycle license then u aint allowed 33bhp. i only got cbt and have 33bhp so u may as wel.

ok cheers lads thats cleared alot of stuff up!

best thing to do is to test the maximum speed when i get the bike really. does anybody know if the new RS's come with powervalves as standard? and also will my dealer derestrict both restrictors (CDI box and power valve)? i got the dealers (riossi) to derestrict my bike for free when i get it eventually in two or so weeks

    nice one, cheers

    dont think so charlie?

My bike is currently restricted (being de-rest on saturday) and i can get 95mph out of it atm so i must have a powervalve? I get a wicked kick when i hit 7.5k rpm throws me back in the seat gurgles a bit tho before doing it i presume this is cus its restricted but that soon wont be a problem =]

    Restrictions and licences

    Hi

As a learner you are limited to about 15hp (actually 11kW which is about 15hp). If you have passed you restricted licence test then you are limited to 33hp.

A full power RS125 is around 33hp. At the rear wheel that is around 28.5hp. Aprilia havent seemed to claim a hp figure for years (since the Gilera SP01 managed 107mph in an Italian road test and caused lots of political problems)

The cdi restriction does not affect peak power. It only affects the ignition timing between 5000 and 6000rpm, causing a flat spot (fairly certain it is there to get the bike through noise testing).

The bike is normally restricted on peak power by fitting a power valve blanking plate. To get full power you need to fit the power valve, the solonoid to operate it and (possibly) the control unit for it. Some of these parts may be fitted by not connected depending on who restricted the bike.

By the way, Riossi look like they are being closed down at the end of this month. It may not be a good idea to buy a bike from Riossi now as you are unlikely to get any aftersales service at all

    All the best

hey mate thanks for the info, u sound like a pro

well too late i fricking put down my £100 deposit yesterday!!! i heard bout the news as well on mcn - how unlucky is that!!! should be getting the bike before the 20th of this month though (got my A license a few weeks ago )

the thing im worried about is what u mentioned actually, if i went ahead with the bike i won't get any aftersales care from them at all! but i was thinking i can still get warranty work from any other shop can't i? (have to look into that one)

other options are to call myself unlucky and dump the £100 or trying to get that back - highly unlikely though.

    thanks alot again

    Yeah

The warrenty if a full uk bike should be with aprilia so if something goes wrong you can contact the place you bought it from or direct to aprilia uk. The cdi doesnt effect top speed or excelleraton for that matter as you should be reving above six through the gears. It is very handy to cut the bridge though as if you are stuck in gears you dont want to keep dropping it down a gear or trying to pull through the flat spot all the time.

    Hi

I would be tempted to try and get the deposit back, or even forget the deposit.

Not sure whether you could argue that part of what you are purchasing is the after sales backup and as they are closing down they will not be providing this and as such they are breaking the terms of any sales agreement

    All the best

    Keith
