Sawthat in this morning's paper. A few of obvious problems with the story:
-they cited a fatality accident as an example of the sportbike menace. The rider was on a Honda Magna, which ain't too damn sporty.
-there's absolutely no doubt that the mysterious oil spills aren't accidents, and it's happened far more than just two times.
-the only actual local they could find who'd speak up is a cranky old git who only lives there part time. does this mean the locals aren't bothered, or are they afraid to have their names in the paper?
Obviously Palomar attracts a huge range of bikes and the skill level of the riders varies wildly. An it's clear that there are some idiots out there. But most of the problems I see stem from guys on cruisers wobbling wide around the corners, holding up traffic and making a ton of noise.
Lastly, a lot of people I know would gladly pay a reasonable charge for a track day, but there's not a single track in a county with 2 million people! What else can we do but take advantage of the excellent roads around here?

I have to admit that I've stayed away from Palomar on the weekends for the past 8 years or so because of the wannabees that can't hold a line in a corner. I was almost taken out twice by riders that drifted wide on a decreasing radius turn. I was going the opposite direction and when they saw me there was serious target fixation and I was the target.
I remember days where we would sit at the restaurant and BS with the locals. Part of the issue is probably more riders are headed up the mountain than in years past. If a few have a bad attitude and piss off some people, we all get put in that category.
I also don't like being in the area when the CHP have their excessive enforcement days. They pass out tickets like there is no tomorrow.
i used to stay away from there until i recently became more "experienced" with that road. sucks that when i finally get it, i can't have it. oh well, off into the boonies i go to look for more roads!!

To have a good time on Palomar:
Go slow first time up
Go during the week
Go in the am
Unfortunate. Also the racers with racebikes don't help anything.
I've been known to get a knee down up there occasionally. Just takes a little common sense.

If I get a knee down the rest of me follows shortly thereafter![]()
That's attempted manslaughter! It really REALLY gets my dander up. If ever caught doing that the perps should pray the police arrive soon after because the temptation to do something truly regrettable might prove overwhelming...I'm serious too.
In some of these areas similar harrassment has happened with mountainbikers, dangerous obstacles being put on trails to frighten and injure. The clowns that do that kinda stuff are terrorists, that's not too strong a word.
Too bad western-style justice is illegal, there often are some nice oak trees nearby.
Here in Central FL we have had a rash of problems with folks spreading sand in turns, especially blind ones. They make it look like rain washed it over, but it has obviously been conveniently dropped there.
ps Bean, just wait until you get oooooold.......![]()

...there's gotta be a hungry alligator.
damn thats gotta suck . I can say that up on hwy129 Deals Gap the locals support the bikers and try to warn and block the locol police or at least slow them down to the point they dont have a chance. I dont know id any of yall have ever had the chance to ride this little 11.2 mile stretch with 318 turns in it but its heaven along with the other local roads that surround it but there is no locals tossing anything on the road nor calling anything in. The only probablem that we have is the tourist that come up to see the Blue Ridge Mnts and run 30 mph under the limit (35) and dont even think about getting over to let you by no matter what your in or on.
Was up riding the Dragon one day and there was 4 Florida drivers up there purposly slowing more than needed to slow every one down and when you try to pass they step on the gas or swerve into the other lane . There HOGS and i know they bring money in but damn ....
