Chile ride, or Where the hell is Patagonia?

Ok, I'm putting this in the GMT as it's bike related.
From 28 Nov to 11 Dec, I was verrrry lucky and got to ride a DR650 1500 miles thru Chile South America.
Some chat, then some pics, ok?
    Chat is:
motopatagonia.com set it up. Daniel is a former ATL rider of some acclaim. He moved to Chile and decided to start a business doing what he loves, namely, riding offroad dual sport bikes. Chile is perfect for this as the country only got a gravel road in 1982. That has been maintained and near the built up areas is paved, but 5 miles out of town - hellooo rocky road!
After a boring 9 hr redeye flight from ATL to Santiago, +1 hr to Puerto Montt we were there!
Daniel spent a day setting us up on the bikes and learning about the MOSKO saddlebags. Bikes are KLR650 or DR650 with some new bikes coming soon. Luggage is about 80 liters and will hold all you need for 2 weeks of riding.
The riding? Mostly something between packed gravel, dirt with gravel, etc. If you think forest roads are hard, this is prolly too much for you. More importantly, if you fall down? help is only 90 minutes away, so don't fall down.
The scenery? I'll let the pics do the work, but the word amazing did come up a lot. 3,000 year old trees, 50 miles of gravel road banked on one side by the Andes, ocean to the other, and no traffic, just none... There simply isn't anyone who lives on much of the southern part of the country. Civilization is surging every day to change that, but a multimillion acre deal between the Tompkins Foundation and the government means not too much is going to change anytime soon. btw, the road, the Carretera Australe ends a few hundred miles before the country does. You have to cross into Argentina, drive south, then cross back over to see the bottom, but that's just overkill.
Enough talk, pics do your job: <edit> apparently, I have to downsize the pics for them to fit, this will take abit. more to come

When these Alerce trees were first discovered in 1540, they were estimated to be over 1,000 years old.

Stopped to see these ancient trees; called Alerce, they were discovered in 1540, and were estimated to be at least 1,000 years old at that time.

Remnant of a 2011 Volcano. Didn't kill any humans, but killed all the trees within 6 miles. Those aren't clouds, the volcano is still venting.

    some more pics.
Starting from the Bottom,he Church at Santa Lucia was tragically under about 8 feet of landslide only a few days after this. The town suffered near total coverage. Don't know if these kids were in town or not; life is fleeting.
The cycle is quite common for travel, great as long as the road is straight and not dusty, course its dusty every time any vehicle goes by.

These Leupins line much of the Carretera Austral. Colors of the rainbow - blue, to purple, and yellow to peach - beautiful!
One of the riders - Curt
Our journey so far. We are halfway down the country at this point.
And then? A curvy road! While the rest just gazed around, I had to go tear 'em up.
A lake in front of the hanging glacier. The water is permanent teal color. They call it glacier flour or what is left after a glacier grinds up the country side. Said it feels great for your body, but works like Montezuma's revenge on your insides. Detail of the waterfalls.
