    Ohlins RF vs. TTX

    Hello,

I have a 16 RR and want to upgrade the rear shock. I found a good deal on a 2016 RF OEM rear shock with 200 miles on it.

How the the oem RF ohlins compared to the ohlins TTX?

    Thanks in advance

Depends on your riding. If properly dialed, the difference is night and day for me at the track. If you're mostly in the street, I'm sure the OEM would be fine once properly adjusted to your weight with gear. On the track, the TTX is impressive and easy to adjust making it a must for anyone ripping in and out of turns. It amazed me what a click or two could do to change performance.

Do you know how to tune your suspension by choosing the correct spring rate and adjusting the damping?
And once you've adjusted it to optimum do you ride all the way to the edge of the tire?

If you know how to do that and can afford the premium cost, the TTX will allow you to go a little bit faster at the track.
If you're only ridding on the street, a TTX is mostly for bling factor.

I do ride trackdays and ride in the advance group. Also a weekend warrior in the canyons. Ive run .95 spring rate on my previous set up and have had great results.

I just want to know the RF OEM ohlins is drastically better than the OEM RR Sachs shock and will suffice or should I just pay a little more for the ttx

So, here's what the local racers were telling me at the track. The ohlins R/T shock that's stock on the pre-2017 factories is a really good shock and performs mostly within the range of a TTX, but over shorter periods of time. It also requires less maintenance.

I personally ran pretty good pace with my 2013 factory on a stock Ohlins R/T shock that was looked after by Dave Moss with no problem. I recently bumped to a 2017 RF (for other reasons) and will know by the end of next summer if I can tell any difference.
    When in doubt, gas it

Thanks for all the input. Looks like the OEM ohlins from the RF will be suitable. I found one for $600. Good deal?

If that's one from 2016 model RF/LE, and not from a 09-15 model, that's definitely a reasonable price

The part number listed on the RF shock I found online for sale is AP9360. I can't find that shock number on AF1 website. Is that the correct shock?

Aren't those exactly the same? I was under the impression the suspension parts had not changed with the 2015.5 update?

Isn't the RF coming with a "TTX" ? Or maybe that's just the 17. I was under the impression, well if that's the same Ohlins from 09-15 then 600$ is expensive.
YOu can find some on this forum for 400-450 sometimes

I think it’s just the 17s that changed.
$600 is probably half or less than half of the price of the TTX.
I went from a sachs to an R/T on my previous 2010 and it was more than worth the money.
A TTX would be only for bling for me.....I’d rather spend the money elsewhere....a tool cabinet or something lol
