09 tuono runs rough under 4k rpms

Just picked up this bike a month ago. Amazing machine, but after a few days of slower riding in tight twistie,s the low end is running rough. I have leo vince slip ons, no baffle. I live in Las Vegas where there are no good Aprilia mechanics. I read on here I need to unlock map 2 and -1 sprocket in front. When I called the only Aprilia dealer about unlocking map 2 they were not sure what I meant. Can I sent my ecu to someone AF1 or to Amauri. Love this bike but need to smooth out down low for real world riding. Thanks for any info guys.

The Rotax V990RR motor you have will never run smoothly below about 3,700 rpm, hence the nature of a 60 degree V-Twin motors with high compression, primary imbalance (has balancer shafts but they cannot smooth the entire rpm range) and big camshaft lift and duration. We can unlock Map2 easily on a mail in service, swapping front sprocket is no harder on the Aprilia than any other motorcycle. My preferred gearing is 16:44, since the speedo pickup is NOT off the countershaft like Japanese bikes of the era you will not get speedo inaccuracy from changing final drive gearing.

thank you for info. sounds like changing out the rear sprocket is the only thing I should do. What is the purpose of unlocking map 2 then?

Turns off oxygen sensor feedback to ecu, runs on base mapping appropriate for slip on pipes, improved throttle response. If you already have a 16T front just order a 44T rear in steel and you will be happy for many miles and lose no top speed but get to same top speed much quicker as bike has aerodynamically limited top speed in stock or lightly modified form.
