Shiver engine failure on the highway- no logs in diagnostics- any clues?

    Hi guys,

Recently my Shiver (2012) had first breakdown since I bought it new. I was on the highway when suddenly power was cut, no response from the throttle, red light flashing on the dashboard and sign Urgent Service Requires flashing. I pulled over and revs were waving between 500-3000 rpm and it seems it was working on one cylinder (but I'm not sure). The bike wouldn't respond to throttle inputs. I turned it off for around 5-10 min. and after that time it started without problems but with Service Required message on the dashboard (no Urgent this time). I costed it to the office and called for road assistance. When it arrived after couple of hours the bike started and there was no Service Required message anymore. The mechanic said there are no logs pointing to failure of anything in diagnostics so it's hard to say what was wrong.

Any suggestions what to look for?

Also I should probably mentioned that since last winter (I live in Ireland and bike is parked outside under the cover although used daily for full year) when temperature dropped below 5 deg. C it was very hard to start the engine. Battery is good and the starter motor would turn without problems but it would take 3-4 revolutions for the spark to kick in and and then probably 100 revolutions for the motor to start. Once warmed up it was fine.

Your highway symptoms do tend to indicate a faulty manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor. This has been covered elsewhere in this forum.

Thanks guys. Mechanic indicated it can be MAP sensor. He will be doing 20k service so if it is disconnected battery he should catch it.
