    Hard start in cold

First winter with the shiver and the bike is ridiculously picky with the temperature and starting. The minute the temp drops below 5c it begins being a hit and miss pig to start. Anything above and it seems much better right away. Some days it takes 2-3 times of a good 10 seconds holding the starter to kick in and once it never did and drained the battery. Just dropped a new battery in and pretty much the same so it has to be starter / temp related. I'm sure the starter could do with a strip and clean but in the interim is there any way I could try warm the starter or prevent this from happening?

I put an electric heater in with the bike, and turn it on ~10 minutes before I want to leave. I point it at the oil filter area.

Some have reported poor connections at the starter due to being loose or corroded. You may want to disconnected each one and scrape it clean before digging in elsewhere.

Thanks guys. Heater not possible as bike outside but could try hot water soak somehow. I'll also disconnect and clean it too.
