I regularly see cruiser riders on the side of the road near my house..... We live in the northern panhandle of WV, and lots of riders HAVE to stop an put their helmets on to ride through WV! Most of them could have ridden 30 minutes north and bypassed our state all together..

Update to this; received a package in the mail today from the Ducati Owners Club (DOC) with 2 DOC T-shirts, 2 DOC neck protectors, 2 DOC wrist bands, an invitation to a club track day at SMSP with Troy Bayliss & Mike Jones & a really nice card.
The fact they have gone to the trouble to look up our address & send this gift is awesome.
    We feel really special now.

Great end to your story plocky.
I always like to think there are more good people in the world than a-holes.
Hope you can make the track day and show those Duc guys what an Aprilia goes like.

Unfortunately Sydney Motor Sport Park (AKA Eastern Creek Raceway, my old RC30 racing days stomping ground) is ~1200km NTh of here, plus an expensive boat ride across Bass Straight.
So no; we won't be going.

There was another part of the card that had a quote that summed up their attitude & appreciation.

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."- Helen Keller

EDIT: rofl, just realised the track day invite/leaflet is from last year, so I would need a TARDIS to get to it anyway.

Yes there are some good people - I was heading down Mt Glorious and the (didn't know then) fuel line on the fuel pump came off, engine died and was lucky to get to the hard shoulder.
Problem was no mobile coverage so couldn't get hold of anyone to assist - hours later, guy stops has a chat and said I will be back with a trailer..... an hour and a half later he's back and helps me load the bike and drives me all the way home. Probably spend the better half of his day helping me out. Offered all sorts of gifts/petrol for his help, just wanted to help someone today was his reply

That was classy of them to send a thank you letter. Helping other riders always has benefits, but they don't usually include a free test ride.

I remember coming upon a guy with a flat tire once. It was a huge Japanese cruise of some sort, and must have weighed 800 lbs or so. 2 guys were trying to load it in a truck, while the one guy's wife watched. With the crown of the road, the rear wheel kept dog tracking off the ramp. It took 5 of us to get it in there; Me and my wife, plus the three of them. I had them position the bike so the rear wheel was up hill from the ramp, and it dog tracked right into line. We used engine power to get it up the ramp, with 4 of us balancing. Once in place, the guy's wife grabbed the handlebars and brake.

The rider was pretty emotional once it was safely in the truck. It turns out the bike belonged to his grandfather, who recently passed away and left him the bike. This was his first ride on it, and got a flat in the middle of nowhere.

I was familiar with the dealership where he'd be taking it to get it patched, and knew they had a big bike loading dock, so I suggested he let them unload it.
