    Double exhaust for Mille ME

    Hi.

I am looking to change the standard muffler on my Mille to liberate all that beautifull music from the engine. For that I was looking for the double exhaust from the R, but is very difficult to find.

Recently I found an double exhaust (intake manifold and the two mufflers) from a 1000R. Will this fit on a Mille? The engine is the same, yes? But what about mountingbolts, faring, swingarm, etc ... ? Will it fit?

Anybody tried to fit an exhaust from a 1000R to an Mille? experiences?

you need to talk gen1 and gen2.

gen1 bikes have a 3 stud bolt pattern on the exhaust port.
    gen 2 have a 4 bolt pattern.

if its a gen 2 system its a lot of work cutting and welding to make it fit a gen1.

How about the other way around, going from the twin zorst to a single on a gen 2?

That would require at least the same amount of work; cutting and welding to change the flanges. And even then it might not be so simple.

Looks like more cash going out on twin aftermarket cans then. I did think it would be only a matter or changing/modifying the original system to take a collector (box 2 to 1) under the bike then buying one can and link pipe. I haven't had the chance to go over the machine as yet so your input is valued, thanks kzmille.

I've seen this talked about a few times on the gen 2 forums but I don't know that anyone has done it. There is no doubt it can be done but till someone goes through the process there is no telling how much trouble it is.

the gen2 and gen1 rear headers take a slightly different route past the shock and thru the swinger. A gen2 header on a gen1 bike fouls the shock and needs cutting and welding. Or change to gen2 swinger and shock and dogbones etc.

Also the headers and collectors are not mix and match compatible.

Theres no easy route, it aint no plug n play.

    OK, thanks guys.

Guess I'll keep looking or just go for an aftermarket single exhaust.

Even if you find a Gen 1 dual exhaust you would still need to change the shock and suspension links on your ME as a group for the shock, spring, dogbone, and triangles that came on an RP.

The dual Gen 1 exhaust will not clear the the shock linkage on the 98-00 ME bikes.

The RP bikes use much softer springs and a significantly different link ratio & shock valving, so you do not want to mix and match shocks, springs and links from ME and RP bikes.

As JMH said going with a collector mod on a single exhaust system is a very good option.

Google Redratbike modded collector some dyno charts should appear

How about a nice 10bhp in the midrange taking out the flat spot and a few bhp at the top mimics the flow of a dual system

The dyno charts were plug and play on a bike running open airbox and old dr Rossi chip and akrapovic race can ...a bit more power can be had by having the tb's set up to suit or custom map if running a pc3

I would suggest an aftermarket eprom to adjust fuelling
please get in touch if you would like a modded collector, adjustable lock-stops or quick release tank and seat pins

So do you still make these modded collectors?

I already found a PCIII. My plan is to get Mille back into running state (having some clutch problems) during the winter, doing some test-drives/getting acquainted in the spring and getting here tuned in the summer. There is no need for extra power (120 hp is enough for me) but it sure would be nice to get rid of that homologation dip around 4000 rpm
