Red triangle and EFI on dash

After about 10 miles today the red warning triangle came on steady and EFI showed up on the dash. Bike is running fine with full power. User manual isn't very helpful suggesting that a flashing red triangle is a "severe failure" and the bike will go into limp to dealer mode.

Anyone else had this or have any ideas?

It's most likely just the exhaust valve and will need to be adjusted. Common issue on this bike

The red light is used for all sorts of stuff, on the new dash its used for traction control warning too. Red on steady is a minor errors the system found. Red Flashing is serious fault.

I wish the bike had more information on a fault like my Dorso 1200 did. That bike gave you the codes on the display. One reason I setup Guzzidiag on my PC and got the cables to read the codes. You can then tell what is serious or not and decide to go to a dealer or just do the fix yourself. Its more than likely the exhaust valve as that is a very common culprit. I've had the brake switch on the front lever generate a code too, but that came with a flashing ADD icon.

abnknows, no i haven't fitted a Healtech ESE. Although might do if this problem persists. I seems to have fixed itself after a couple of hundred miles yesterday.

Sounds like the exhaust valve then. Dealer will need to adjust it

I've just had an intermittent "Red Triangle of death" warning light, booked into the dealer and it is an unknown code fault ( not in the techs book of codes) for a failure of the ADD rear compression system for the suspension. The bike is still rideable but if the rear compression is adjusted to its hardest setting the light comes back on. Waiting for the UK Aprilia guys to come back with a solution, but at the moment it looks like a new rear ADD unit. All to be done under warranty.

Took the bike to the dealer today. The red EFI light was on all the way there. They checked the ECU and said it was an historic exhaust valve fault code, they cleared the ECU and the light was now out. Charged me 30 mins labour. Rode about 2 miles from the dealer an the light came on. Returned to dealer who said they can't adjust the exhaust valve only replace the servo or the exhaust valve. Can't be arsed with this. Healtech ESE ordered.
PS. does anyone know how to adjust the exhaust valve cables/servo

Sorry I cannot answer your question but an unscientific approach when I had the same issue was to give the pulley and cables a good clean (a hard lump of baked on dirt fell of in this process) and them spray them liberally with GT85. Not had the problem since

Perfect excuse to go with a GPR exhaust

I installed the Healtech and GPR last summer...never had the triangle of death (knock on wood)

heinz57, thanks, i will try that. There does appear to be some sleeves on the cables running to the servo which maybe hiding an adjuster.

The exhaust valve cables have adjusters at the valve end and halfway along the cable where it splits into two is another one, I've taken mine off and fitted a Healtech, but I noticed there was just light tension on the valve when stopped (i.e. valve open) and when you switch on the ignition it should cycle through its movement arc and return to open before you start up the engine. On start up it should close the valve up, making the exhaust quieter and (presumably) increasing the back pressure within. Fitting a Healtech is fine, but I do find the exhaust pops and farts at low revs and when the engine is cold. Touching wood - I've not had any warning light troubles.

Healtech arrived today (super service from Biker Discount Centre aka BDS Racing). Coolonthecoast, did you remove the servo or just un-plug it?
