and let's be realistic, after that, if he never races again he'll still live a very nice life on Ducati's payroll infinitum.....

Let's be honest, MM has consistently been the fastest rider this season, and if not for the engine blow-up would have clinched in Malaysia if not before. Dovizioso had bad luck too, all riders do over the course of 20 races pushing at 100%. But the engine failure was squarely on Honda and not Marquez or some pinball in the field.

Dovi had a great season, maybe the best season for Ducati since Casey's championship year, but Marquez is normally on another level at this point in his career.

Ducati and Dovi screwed themselves by being so far off the mark in Australia at such a critical time late in the season. It is as simple as that.

While I admit to be a MM fan, I would love to see Dovi take it, but I just don't see it happening. So long as MM rides smart he will clinch it. All the conspiracy theories be damned as well as team orders. The only order that can seriously affect anything would be one that tells someone to deliberately take him out of contention. The only thing Dovi can do is win the race and hope for the best.

Yep, it doesn't look good for Dovi, but anything can happen.

    Currently it's 282 to 261.

If Dovi wins he'll finish with 286.
An 11th place finish pays 5 points so MM wins by 1 point.
A 12th place finish would be 4 points and a tie.

In the event of a tie in the number of points, the final positions will be decided on the basis of the number of best results (number of first places, number of second places, etc.). In the event that there is still a tie then, the date in the Championship at which the highest place was achieved will be taken into account-with precedence going to the latest result.
    Currently Dovi has 6 wins, 1 2nd, 1 3rd.
    MM has 6 wins, 4 2nd, 1 3rd.

Title I'm pretty sure still goes to MM.

So for Dovi to have a shot at the championship he has to win the race. If he finishes anything less than that, game over. He also needs MM to finish (or DNF) 13th or worse.

If Dovi wins and it's a tie he wins the championship due to seven wins to 6

I think MM has matured enough to nurse it home so that he can take the championship. Plus, there's the other side of "team orders" to consider. I bet DP will do everything in his power to slow Dovizioso's progression towards the head of the field. And who knows, MM could crash or draw a really bad tire from the allocation. Also, Marquez is good in flag to flag situations, but it could rain and turn the whole race & championship on its head. I don't think Jack Miller or Iannone or either of the Red Bull riders give two shits about the championship or the struggle with MM/Dovi. They're going to do everything they can to get the best result possible in order to end the year on a positive note and transition into 2018 testing on a high.
    I find tinsel very distracting.

If you like conspiracy, Rossi could take out Marquez, giving Dovi the championship, and a payback to Marquez for helping JLo.

I'm not saying I think VR will do that, but, he can show a very vindictive dark side when he feels wronged. Revenge is best served cold......

If Rossi was stupid enough to take Marc out he better have his escape plan in place as the fans would likely rush the track to get him.
