It the sign of an air leak. you rev the engine and the throttle snaps back to idle but the engine either stays revved or slowly comes back to idle. Have you done anything to your scoot or is it still stock?

I bought it 2 years ago and it is a 125 model with the 150cc engine. Just by looking around I can see that it has been fixed quite a few times, but it seems to be mostly stock. All parts seem to be original. Since I got it I have replaced some of the badly worn rubber parts (the same hose you replaced), replaced the belt, variator slides and weights, cleaned the carb etc. It does run quite fine, but I reckon it could be better. I mostly cant get it to start when cold just by the press of the button. Need to twist the throttle a bit.

For me the idle screw doesn't seem to be doing much. When I rev the engine it quite often just goes down to low rev idle ignoring the idle screw setting.

Which screw are you talking about, the A/F mixture screw or the idle speed screw? If its the idle speed screw it could be that you need to adjust your throttle cable.

I thought I would catch this thread up. I was having the usual power issues I thought. When I went to start it the battery sounded dead. I figured I burned out the old gel battery charging it wrong. I got a new battery and put it in and still the starter barely cranked and the battery went to 7 volts. Hmmm, I then started checking connections and figured the Briggs & Stratton relay was the problem. Put a good replay in and pulled the electric pump. Still no love. I then traced the starter cable back and saw no problem. I pulled the starter and using jumper cables ran it, it got hot fast and drew the battery down like a short. I then took it apart and found this:

The magnet was cracked, time for a new starter, I found a starter on Ebay and ordered it. I got it Yesterday and put it in and it cranked it right over. Now I have a good running scoot that starts right up, warm up is only about 30 seconds until I can ride it.

On another note, I put 12 gram sliders in and it has nice take off, no more winding the engine up to get the variator to kick in. I'm going to leave it off the Battery tender and see how it does in a few days. I really like riding this scoot. It has enough power to go anywhere around town and is much lighter than my other options. here is a picture with the Beo and its cousins:

I just need to get and aftermarket top box so I can carry more that a sheet of paper with me. The one that came on it is a rattle trap.

After a week of sitting off of the Battery Tender it started right up this morning. The starter motor cranks it really fast so it starts right up and idles well. By the time I got my jacket, helmet and gloves on it was ready to ride. This is what I have done to make this a well behaved scooter:
    40 pilot jet
Needle with a washer under it
    A/F mixture tuned in properly
    Valves set exactly to spec
    Pulled the pollution stuff off

I still like this scooter. I don't have the windscreen on right now and I feel like I'm riding a motorcycle because of the chrome headlight. I have even gotten a few waves from other riders, if they only knew.
