ok, so im home bored on a friday night so of course the temp starts to drop and the humidity isn't too bad. so i put my gear on and took the mille out. the one thing i truely hate about the back roads in my area is that the trees overhang the roadway and prevent the sun from totally drying up the road, its really slick when the humidity is high-of course its mainly in the turns as luck would have it and my super corsas don't really like that much moisture.oh yeah my tires are a bit tired. i was backin that beast in all over the place today, the back tire was truely fun when downshifting (Nicky who). yeah right.
well i came into a nice right hander and i was in mid revs in third gear and leaned over pretty well when i found a wet spot. the front pushed and i looked straight ahead and what did i see GUARDRAIL. all i could do was keep the lean and keep the power on and pray. she hooked back up and smoothed out. during the night i also saw 2 deer crossing the roadway and a large piece of a tree in the roadway. tonight was a true test of avoiding all kinds of stuff. all in all though it was a good night. just thought i would share the ride and hope all are safe.

Perfect example why the street is not a race track. You were very lucky THIS TIME. A very close friend of mine has PERMANENT BRAIN DAMAGE from showing off for a video cam in the twisties and hit a guard rail just like the one you didn't. But then again, if you're intentionally sliding into turns on shagged tires in the wet stuff maybe you already do.

I don't want to preach, but if you want to be the next Nicky Haydon, please do it on the track. You can't go to fast if you're in a wheelchair.........

    Or worse.

too true city, i wasn't going too fast, just that damn wet spot. actually handled an accident with a guy going down a major highway and was trying to keep up with his friend- an experiened rider, the new rider was on a zx12r and lost control when he got to the turn. mind you the speed limit was 55 and witnesses advised they were going well over 90mph. rider went into the guardrail and the bike ripped apart. the forks were snapped totally off the frame. when i got there the rider was up and walking around-i was shocked. he was truely lucky.

    motorcycle head on with car

and there was the one that happened about 2 weeks ago. rider was with a couple of his buddies and they were passing on the shoulder and weaving in and out of traffic. the rider lost control and went across the grass median which is about 25-30 feet wide. the rider was traveling north on this main road. the rider went head on with southbound traffic. rider went head on into a honda accord and went over the car and was run over by a jeep behind. it was a suzuki 600 but you could barely tell. the bikes parts were all over the roadway. i have pics of the accident but i can't download the files here, they are too big. it wasn't even his bike and i don't believe he had a motorcycle license. after seeing these i have given thought to just riding on the track but i just can't give it up yet.

    Farva03R-

If your front end was pushing on the street and you're heading for the guardrail, DON'T BLAME THE WET SPOT. Please don't take what I'm saying the wrong way. I love riding on the street and especially the mountain twisties. But I doubt that Scooter or Clarkie practice backing into turns on the street either. Sure, there is always something that might not be avoidable, but if you ride at a pace that hopefully allows you room to avoid any possible incident that may occur, you stand a much better chance out there. I work as an independant insurance appraiser/investigator and see way too many accidents and fatalities that could have been avoided if the rider had just slowed down to at least a relatively safe speed. I am assuming you work for the State Patrol or Sherriffs Office, so you already know that. Sure, a lot of them involve an inexperienced rider going too fast for their ability, but my friend I earlier referred to had an AMA Pro License! The worst thing about his situation was I told him less than 6 months before his accident the exact same thing I'm trying to get across to you. I told him if he didn't slow down it wouldn't be if, it'd be when. That was with a wife and three kids at home. He didn't listen. I really hope you do. If not for yourself, do it for your family.

This sport is too much fun. Just ride safe, OK?

The picture below is all I can show you. If you want to see the pictures, you'll have to go to the coroners office.

I've ridden on the track for years and only had to ride on the street for about a month or so before I made up my mind that street riding in general was just kind of lame and too dangerous. I was positive either I would get killed by some idiot, or lose it one day and yank some dumb ass out of a mini van!

In any case, once some one has ridden on the track seriously I just don't see how the street could hold any appeal at all.

Sell off that street stuff and make a racer out of that thing. You'll be better off for it.

    Agree With Jet City

Son, if you're backing into turns on a slick road with limited visablity you are asking to get chopped. I backed the Gixxer into a turn about a year and a half ago and hit oil someone poured out on the road. The resultant high side was amazing.

Through a barb wire fence about 30 feet into a pasture. Good thing it didn't happen on Laureles Grade where there is guard rail, air and 200' till touch down.

Get some track days lined up and chill a little on the street

I know I got my point across but thought of something. This was a right hand turn which probably meant you crossed the center line. Good thing there wasn't a car or SEMI coming the other way.

Something tells me you wouldn't have been a member anymore.
Besides, rumor has it the view sucks from the inside of a pine box.

These comments weren't meant to slam you, but more so an oppotunity to get the point across to other riders too.
