Good points and thanks for sharing details. I'm not pissing on your parade here, I'm just trying to understand options. I hear you about going with Aprilia parts (it makes a lot of sense), but I also see that it is $80 for unknown quality part from Aprilia vs. $105 for well known brand used by MotoGP, WSB, AMA, etc. ...I guess it is good to have options.

Is this Aprilia air filter a gauze type filter? If so I am not quite sure how or why it shouldn't be oiled? I chased the whole air filter thing years ago but honestly, these days I stay stock on a street bike. They work and have more than enough flow to support the Tuono and its much lower rpm range. Thunder you did a great job on this post though!!

Wonder how this compares to the DNA filter as it has a larger surface area as it does away with the frames ect

actually, std cotton filter used by Aprilia looks very similar to DNA filters... i could bet DNA is the supplier.

PS the "performance airkit for Tuono" is standard in any '09-'14 RSV4 Factory.

Yeah that's cool mate, I got you right. I like to help those people that aren't too confident to do stuff but would quite like to get some moderate gains without too much complicated work or too much expense.

I guess you could say that I'm taking the safer route using what Aprilia themselves are suggesting. It's nice and cheap too.

Yeah exactly, I guess that's why Aprilia feel confident to offer it in the official Tuono accessories PDF.

You could say the same about aftermarket pipes and yet most people remove oem slipon. It all depends. If you change to open flow slipon, race filter and ride without proper map or never change the filter, sure you are asking for problems. If you buy parts from aprilia and upload race map, I think your engine will be fine. If fun factor is your goal, then go for it and don't think twice. If you want engine that will last, buy honda

Well I certainly expect my engine to "last" when I pay 17K plus for a bike (assuming you take care of it).....lol
