Shame, beautiful bikes. Never seen one on a public road though. Exclusivity is nice but doesn't pay the bills.

There was one at a TD this summer, couldn't figure out what it was from afar, had to go ask. Looked kind of like a Ducati, definitely sounded like a Ducati, but just not right. Guy did ride it hard, but the 1-off exhaust fell off and ended his day.

Always did want a YB5, with the FJ1200 motor. I still do!

Was it the 2000 Phillip Island SBK round where Anthony Gobert won a race on the Bimota Suzuki twin, and Troy Corser the other on his Aprilia RSV1000SP?

It's a problem for companies like Bimota, Back in the 70's and 80's they could take a current bike, do their thing and it would be better, nowadays if they did the same thing it would be worse, there aren't enough people who are willing to pay the entry price for something worse but more exclusive.

^^^ Yup, chassis and suspension on modern sportbike are very good. In the '80's they were more than lacking.

Last May, in an amazing Milano motorsports bookstore, Libreria dell'Automobile at Corso Venezia 45, there was a beautiful new book on Bimota. Leafing through it, you could see how they went from being innovators to something more like cosmetic makeovers. Really, really sad the devolution. I reckon the Bimota Mantra is still the ugliest thing to ever come from Italy, with the dark windscreen it looked so much like a cartoon chicken wearing sunglasses.

Come on, of course there are - all those "yard built" so-called "cafe racer (with knobbly tyres)" pieces of crap that hipsters are buying seem to be selling in droves
