    2007 Tuono top end knock?

Went out this morning to fire up the bike. Started right up, but made a hard knocking sound that I haven't heard before (until now) on this particular bike.

I am concerned, however it went away nearly immediately and the bike ran fine. No lack of power, nothing whatsoever.

Was this a fluke? Anyone had any experience with this?

I realize i'm admitting to being a bit naive, but I haven't enough experience with this particular bike!

Have you started the bike and only let it run for a few seconds then cut it off anytime before you heard this?

I did actually, just once. It was started twice (and ridden between starts) before it was parked previous to this particular scenario.

I ask cause I had that happen to an 08 I had. That was the only scenario I could come up with why mine made that noise.

Could be one of the hydraulic cam chain tensioners drained of oil and took a bit longer to refill as it came up to oil pressure

Gotcha... All was well afterwards? I'm due for an oil change and will have it done wednesday. Should I hold off on riding it until then?

If the knocking is at the top of the motor and goes away not long after starting it, the tensioner could be the issue. Reasons they go bad are blocked up/weakness. Not common but they can fail.
Definitely do the oil change, the tensioners are above the oil line and can be changed without dropping the oil.

Ride it. As long as it's not making the noise.

Thanks for the tip. I completed an oil change and when I started the Tuono it made a terrible racket. Took it for a ride and all is good again.
