Clan Capo 2018 Eilean Siar & The Sea Kingdom

Clan Capo 2018 Eilean Siar & The Sea Kingdom

    Monday 11th - Saturday 16th June 2018

Mainly a trip to a handful of the Isles. Our progress is very much dictated by the seven ferry sailings. Some leisurely days and others not quite so much. We must plan to camp as not all the accommodation can be booked. We will have use of the facilities, but no guarantee of a bed. Fingers crossed we can use the hostels each night. Don't book ferries yet, the plan needs a second set of eyes to look over it, I might have made a wee boo boo here and there.

Day one unfortunately we absolutely need to leave at 0800hrs from Dumfries. Miss that first ferry and we are in the keech.

    Day 1 Monday 11th June 2018

Depart Tesco Extra, Cuckoo Bridge Retail Park, Dumfries 0800hrs sharp (fuel, Costa Coffee and Tesco all day breakfast)

Dumfries to New Galloway , then Ayr to Erskine Bridge then the A82 to Tyndrum. Follow A85 to Oban.

1330hrs ferry to Castlebay on the Isle of Barra, £47.30 and 2 ¾ hours. Wee run round Barra (its 7 miles by 4 miles), visit the airport runway on the beach. Accomodation at Dunard Hostel £20 (tbc).

    Day 2 Tue 12th

0925hrs ferry to Eriskay, £8.10 and 40 mins.

Spend the day exploring South and North Uist. Accomodation at Berneray Hostel (yes, the black house we used in 2015) £15

    Day 3 Wed 13th

1025hrs ferry to Leverburgh, £10.05 and 1 hour. Spend the day exploring Lewis and Harris. Accomodation at Fairhaven hostel in Stornoway (booked for 14).

    Day 4 Thu 14th

Wee bit of time to finish Lewis.

1150hrs ferry from Tarbert to Uig, £21.10 and 1 3/4hrs. Take the road across the Quiraing on Skye then follow the road south to Portree, Broadford and Armadale.

1710hrs ferry Armadale to Mallaig, £7.50 and 45 mins. Follow the A830 and then a wee run down the Kingairloch road to Strontian. Accomodation at the Ariundle Centre £20 (tbc).

    Day 5 Fri 15th

Run to Ardnamurchan lightnouse (most westerly point on Mainland Scotland) then return to Kilchoan.

1015hrs ferry to Tobermory (Mull), £6.85 and 35mins. Explore Mull. Staying at Craignure Hostel £20 (tbc)

    Day 6 Sat 16th

Leisurely morning, walk or ride. Whatever may be your want.

1240hrs ferry to Oban £9.95 and 55mins. Head home.

Not set in stone. Pillions welcome. Caponords welcome (rarer than unicorn poop these days). Suggestions welcome (but may be ignored).

Well, "Billy Big Bollocks" at work has decided against giving me the holidays that i wanted so it looks as if i'm fooked, so far!
Even though that week is spare, he wants to offer it to the new starters first, wanker that he is! Fingers crossed no-one takes it.
I really wanted to do this trip too, as last time it headed over to the Outer Isles old el Capo gave up the ghost and i was unable to get there.
So, i'm just having to wait and see what happens. ARSE!!!

If i can't get that week then i'll probably take a week out later on and do the Normandy beaches and the Submarine pens at La Rochelle. I've always fancied that.

    Cheers Daz,
I'm still hopeful of getting away with it, but it would be useful to have a backup plan.
Any info on Normandy would be great, as I said earlier. its one of the places i really feel the need to go to.
