    2006 Scarabeo 50 4t slow acceleration

Just picked up a friend of a friend's 2006 Scarabeo 50 4t with only 880 miles that hasn't been started in 5 years. The scooter is in mint condition. I took the time to dump the fuel, break down and clean the carb, replaced the jets, replaced the spark plug and give it a good overall look. Now the scooter starts up with no problems.

I haven't ridden a scooter since 2003 and that was a Zuma, so I am not sure if this is normal. When I open up the accelerator to full, it takes a good time for it to get up to 25 mph, say 1/2 mile. Is this normal? Also, what would be the top speed? I have only ridden it in my neighborhood, so after 1/2 the most I could get was 30 mph.

If this is not normal, I would love some ideas as what to look at.

Here is a short video I made. I can only get this up to 20mph. Hard to tell from the video but it bogs down when I open up the accelerator to full. I removed the air filter to see if that helped, but it doesn't. Thanks for any help you can give.

it seems like it is starving for fuel. if you have a perfect idle then maybe clean the needle and mainjet.

i would double check for mice nests in the intake/head or exhaust pipe.

    hope that helps.

i think im confused about the air blasting around but the cvt/trans has some fanning action. it does not look aircooled so that is not it.

The air flow is normal, it's an air cooled 4 stroke. There's a fan that blows air throughout the housing. Definitely a carb problem. If it's completely stock, make sure the jets used are the same as stock also. Put the clip for the needle in it's stock position. Put the air filter back on. Removing it is gonna make it run lean. Make sure the float is properly set and the fuel inlet isn't plugged up. Check your fuel filter and recheck to see what the plug looks like. Sounds like it idles great though.

Ok thanks, I will have to do some more work on the carb and check the exhaust. The idle jet and main jet are brand new. I did not change the needle, it looked fine and I cleaned the entire carb. The only jet I did not change is the accelerator jet that is in the corner of the carb. Very tiny hole and I blew carb cleaner thru it, or at least I think it was going thru it.

Have two more questions. First is the order of the jet pin. The diagram looks to be incorrect or I placed it incorrectly. After I install the diagram I put the pin in, then the clip, then finally the spring on top of the clip. The diagram seems to show it differently. Here is the diagram and a pic of how I installed it. Which is correct?

Second question is what is this and where does it go? It looks to be a drain hose, but I have been unable to locate where it goes.

Found a better diagram and it looks like I did it the correct way. This is from the service manual.

so you got new jets? it sounds like a clogged mainjet.

is there an emulsion tube on that carb? they get clogged up also because of the possible small holes in it.

+1 The emulsion tube under the main jet has tiny holes that need to be clean. Even with a new jet the air/fuel will not mix right unless that tube is clean in and out. I used a thin guitar string to clean mine out.

    Good luck!

The drain on the bottom of the carb has a short cast aluminum tube that that hose slips over.
