I got highsided off on saturday.

I got highsided off on saturday.
I was doing fine, after my usual crap start, carving my way up through the FIII pack, when the first of the 125gp's (who'd started behind us -staggered start) came past. He swung across my nose and apparently bumped me, cos his exhaust was bent when he came in off the track.
But it was the guy behind who knocked me off. When the one in front swung in, the one behind ran into my rear end, knocked it loose- i was fairly leaned over- and I went about 5 feet in the air and landed on my head.
I am sitting here watching this screen with it severly dimmed, and trying to spell everything right. I got knocked out for about ten or fifteen minutes, and concussed. I am still floating around in lala land today.

Not the reccommended way to get off your head, while landing on it.

    Sorry to ear that, mate.
You never know when they can bump us from the rear. Try to be careful, alright?
I bet that one did scare the hell out of you !!!
Well, but you're ok! That's what matters.

Pro, the helmet is rooted in the good old fashioned way. As for the bike, just cosmetics and a rearset, luckily. Oh and the gearshift linkage rod.

I will be out of racing for the mandatory 21 day standdown after any concussion.

    DOH!!!

Now i'm out of lala land (at least for part of the time) reality is reasserting itself like a slap in the face with a cold, wet, trout.

So I wouldn't have been able to race for that 21 days, cos i would have been broke from fixing all the stuff at once, and getting a new hat. Hmmmm. Silver linings?.

RSkiwi, those bloody 125gp's just happen to be the two of the best 125gp riders in the country, and one who's with them on a good day.
Around levels, they used to race them against the superbikes. And 125's always placed in the top 5, usually in the top 3.

    Cheers

where did ya crash man, a rather fast section i guess? my mate has raced a 125 for the last 10 years, ive had a ride around ruapuna on more than one occation on his bikes and i must say they are awesome to ride, once you get them off the line. I used to race f3 on a zxr400 and couldnt work out why the little bastards blew me away, i soon learnt why once i rode one.

p.s. Ive been out the country for a few years, whats with sv650's, that a bit on the nose aint it??

I crashed on the decreasing radius just before the hairpin at levels.
Dunno what gear it was, i'm still running the same gearing as teretonga so i'll get a decent drive out of some of the corners, and i'm not getting into top down the straight. I don't think i am anyway.

As for the SV650's. On the nose. Like David Tua.
The first year, no restrictions. They dicked everything until Jason Easton got his Tigcraft Minimono going right.
Second year, some restrictions on the intake side. At the very end of the straight, Andy Bolwell was pulling them back slightly.
On his ZXR440 with its insane power.

Gone are the days when you could run in the top bunch with a tuned up NSR or RGV. Alas, I fear the days of the two-stroke are numbered.
I turn to weep at this sad revelation, and see a vision.
It is green, watercooled, twostroke and 500cc.
    With knobbly tyres.
Hmmm. If some english outfit can build a world supermono competition winning machine with a yamaha YZ426 engine(The afore-mentioned Tigcraft minimono), what could be done with a KX500 engine and an Aprilia chassis

    hola
well apperantly you cant stick an 500 crosser engine in the priller chassi coz it'd generate to much vibration. my buddy has got a CR500 that he just bought sum supermoto wheels for, cant wait to try that one on a track, gotta be friggin insane...

A big four stroke thumper, hmmmm??

I returned from 4 years over seas to my 93 rgvSP with a blown engine, and that was my first thourght. I looked at a crf/yzf motor, even a KTM520, but couldnt find anything at a decent price, so ive gone for the good old handgrenade suzuki motor again. I only use the bike for street racing and the odd day at ruapuna, so eventually will probably try an engine swap of some kind.

so whats the details on eastons tigcraft bike? whats it powered by, how did it compare to fitzgeralds 650?

Eastons tigcraft in 2002/2003 nationals was powered by a YZ426, i think it was bored to 450. The chassis was built and setup to replicate a 125gp, used 125gp suspension, swingarm and wheels.
I saw it at ruapuna and teretonga, where he finally got it really going.
It was pulling away from Andy Bolwells ZXR400 (it was 400 that year) on the straights. And what it lacked in top end against the SV's, it made up for in corner speed .

For the 2003/2004 nats, it was the new YZ450, bored to around 470cc's. When it went, it went well, but I didn't see it finish one race. As I recall, at ruapuna alone, it broke two pistons.
However, in one of the races it went well for several laps, and it sat at lap record pace for those laps. The sv's had it slightly on the straights, but with the 125gp cornerspeed of the tigcraft, combined with the straightline speed of the 470.
And Jason Easton is a very talented rider.
    Then it "retired" again.
The lesson? Don't put too much compression on these things.
As for me, i wanna put a big 2-stroke in it
