The problem with having an opinion is that your bike ain't legal here......well, with a lot of hoop jumping and bureaucracy bribing you could get it done ( not in California!).

    We haven't had a street legal 2-stroke since the RZ350 of 1986.

But, I digress, I like 'em.

    hi twinkiethekid

i dont understand america's stance on two strokes,

u can buy a car with a v12 8 litre engine, and be fine, but cant have a little stinkwheel over 50cc its mad imo... (still glad u got a soft spot for 2t thou twinkie lol)

scottyni cheers m8, your right, they dont know what they r missing, the fun on a 125cc 100mph machine is mint.... pure unadulterated fun!!

hey luke, cheers for the reply, imo i think the twin looks better on the older rs as the rear end has the aggresive look to hold, where as i think it looks out of place a bit on the newer shape (99+) model....

he he he we agree to disagree there m8!!

    all the best

It comes down to bureaucratic stupidity. I was talking with the head mechanic at my dealer about (everybody else is at Laguna ) what it takes to get a RS250 registered. He didn't know first hand, but had heard a few things.

Anyway, it comes down to bureaucrats thinking they know what is good for you (stupid) and being a life long member of some environmental group who believes the internal combustion engine will destroy the planet (dangerous)! Since this person can make the rules governing emission output and two strokes are stinky, smoking things....shall I continue?

But never fear, the EU has standards that make ours pale in comparison!

Back to Mike the mechanic, he said that someone had done a study about emission output of motorcycles. A long winded one, but to sum up he stated that one city of Los Angeles public transport bus puts out more "pollutants" then ALL (dirt, street, ALL) of the motorcycles in California in one year.

The moral of this story: NEVER underestimate the stupidity of the bureaucrat (traffic cameras, anyone?)!

The RS 50 are legal here in the states. That's what he has. Now the RS 250 is not street legal unless you lie, cheat, and steal.

I think they would look better if you couldn't see where it goes from one pipe to two, but they look o.k.

Even more than legal in Nevada. Any bike with an engine capacity of less than 50cc is not considered a vehicle needing registation. So, not only does it not need a license plate, it does not need insurance, you do not need a operator license to ride it, you are not subject to the helmet law Nevada has.

You just do not need anything.

Do not be fooled! The EU says they don't want to make current 2-strokes illegal for the road, but that is next!

Mike the mechanic also stated that California DMV (Dept. of Motor Vehicles for you unwashed ) is thinking about reviewing ALL registration records looking for anything that should not have been allowed to, legally, run around on the roads of the state. The plan is to just send out a notice to the unlucky sap that the registration for his/her grey market car, Ducati SPS, Suzuki RG500, RS250, etc. is now void. No review, no appeal, no shit!

    thats harsh...... unbeleivable almost!!

well if two strokes go the same way this side of the pond, mine will go into storage as im never selling it...

untill they sort out the asian 2t problem, like india, thailand etc... it seems pointless enforcing these laws in the west!

watching tv last night, and it has been calculated that trains, put out more polution per passenger than a car!! get that??!!

    lol
