Went out yesterday, cold but sunny. Heated vest and grips made it OK. First time I've managed to get out this year. I always wonder why I bother owning a bike at this time of year, then when I finally get to go out, I remember. It's b****y fantastic that's why!

As I ride my bikes during the winter months I always make a point of changing all the fastenings for stainless steel as no matter how well you wash your bike following a ride on salty roads you can guarantee normal plated screws will very quickly go furry.
Since I bought my bike last August I have been systematically replacing all the main screws and bolts, as the majority of the fixings are not high tensile I just source a suitable replacement off eBay.
When it comes to the more important fixings like brake calliper and brake discs bolts I bite the bullet and get the correct replacements from Pro Bolt. As I know they are designed for the task.
So last weekend I raided my piggy bank and bought a replacement set for the front and rear brake discs and set about replacing them.
Before I started I checked in the manual for the correct torque settings and got me some more Loctite as mine was running low.
What I was surprised to find when I came to replace the original bolts, only the right hand side front disc was there any thread lock used!!
Obviously the QA procedure in the factory needs to be tightened up as this is a dangerous short cut to take by some lazy Italian in assembly!!
So the moral of the story is check that your brake disc bolts have been fitted with thread lock applied to prevent them coming loose and resulting in a catastrophic accident.

    Desperado

Spent half the day cleaning it following a ride to meet some old mates @ Kemble Airfield, Nr Cirencester. Was a crisp and mostly dry morning and with thermals and heated gloves
the ride was enjoyable apart from around Oxford where it was pretty wet. Can recommend the AV8 café/restaurant as a great bike haunt, especially in summer when there is a lot of flying right in front of you plus plenty of bikes about.

Today I installed the multimedia platform on my Capo, pretty neat!

Then I stripped the rear end, changed tail lights to an intergrated rear brake/blinker light, put on an Evo-Tech license plate kit. Choppedof blinker hangers. Looks alot cleaner.
