All rsv tuonos push some oil in the airbox,If you dont clean it up every once in a while it will become a real mess. The oil should be checked after a proper ride, like at least 20min.How much oil shows up is directly related to the temperature(=how thin) the oil is.Ride the bike like in 3-4000rpm,stop and check the level with the engine running and bike upright.

If its burning oil its most likely the clutch diaphragm, its a easy and relatively cheap repair that most people with some tool knowledge can do.If its not the clutch diaphragm then you most likely have a serious engine issue, but this is very very rare on these bikes.

Try running the oil level a little lower. About half way between low and max.

Only check the level when engine fully up to operating temperature with bike straight up and either idling or immediately after killing.

    More Here

you mean when you start it, no oil is showing on/in the tube?? the 1st month i had my T, i to would always give the bike a quick 'glance' to make sure nuttin's falling off, etc... so, i fire it up, NO OIL SHOWING, SHIT...shut it off, add about 1/2 qt, ahhh, now it's showing, but on the low side...add MORE oil 1/4-1/2 qt...fire it up, shit, now it's over max, tube is filled all the way...it had almost a full gallon of oil by this time...drained some out, etc... when i do my oil changes now, when it's all said and done the bike's got 3.75 qts in it...as long as the motor isn't making $$$$ noises with 'no oil in the tube' there IS oil in the motor...

Don't even bother looking at the site tube when the engine is cold. Set the oil level at the end of a ride when fully up to operating temperature. Then you know it is ready for the next ride.

When the engine is cold, you will see little, if any oil in the tube.
When the engine is hot (76-80 degrees on the guage), it will be between half way and the full mark.

    This is normal.

If you keep topping up the oil when it is cold, you will be overfilling it, and you will end up with the smoke you've experienced.
