Ive just run a 1.5mtr USB cable from the back up to the from and mounted my old iphone 4 to the bars. I use the Tomtom app and also use it for music its also water proof and leave on the bike most of the time unless I'm parked in town. I will eventually tap into the 12V at the front and connect a double USB plug so can run and charge, iphone or ipad and also my Gopro.

12 volts comes off the heated grips but it doesnt look like its ground on the one end so not sure about using it as a power source.

Handy information for fitting aftermarket grips, just be aware that there are limitations to using this as an accessory power source other than for heated grips, as it is conditional switched through the ECU.

not sure if this sounds stupid but whats the Ampere supplied from the GPS cable? 1A? 2A? Might want to connect a cig socket to it and then plug the GPS tru the cig socket? Don't wish to mount the GPS permanently on the bike due to bike always in public view/area. Will go missing in seconds.

I've got some of these on order to fit into space beneath the pillion seat. You can also get a right angle adapter to plug your chosen phone cable into.Click image for larger version.

Please note that the GPS power cable has a 7.5amp fuse located under the saddle (see page 170 of the Use and Maintenance book) which protects the heated grips as well, so I have left the inline 2amp fuse in my GPS cabling mod.

    ^ Did exactly this.

Thought that one day I might add heated grips so, I too left the inline fuse that came with the Zumo wiring kit.
