    what the?!

Hi all. I just had the air sensor and ECU replaced on my 2002 Ditech. It's running good as new, but you know that buzzing sound you hear when you initially hit the ignition button? The one that goes off after a couple seconds and then you hit the starter? Well...

My buzzing sound is now twice as loud as it was before, AND I can hear it when the engine is running, which was never the case before. Maybe it was always buzzing before when the engine was running, but I couldn't hear it because it was so much more quiet. Used to be I had to really listen for the buzz to stop before I started the engine, now it sounds like there is a chainsaw (only slightly exaggerating here...) right under the seat.

Any ideas??? It's driving me mad!!!

    Hi there

The ditech is fuel injected, and the buzzing that can be heard and sometimes also felt is due to the fuel pump whirring away for anything up to 8 seconds when you 1st turn on the ignition.

But once the bike starts up its not normal as far as I am aware to notice any unusual noises or vibrations, however thats not to say that perhaps in your bike the electric fuel pump or pipe is not correctly mounted and therefore causing a strange noise. perhaps something was disturbed by the dealer or mechanic who fixed your bike.

    Regards

    indeed.

I talked to my dealer and he said it was the fuel pump, and said it should always be "buzzing", but he thought that maybe it is now in contact with a body panel after the bike was put back together, causing an amplification of the sound.

I will tear it apart this weekend to see if it is indeed touching something it shouldn't be.

    Thanks!

I would say that it shouldn't be buzzing like that after it's started, and whoever did the original work needs to be the one tearing it apart and correcting their work

    Fixed it!

I removed the left body panel under the seat and moved the fuel pump around a bit. I started up the scooter with the panel removed and it was quiet (like it was before), so I bolted the panel back on and tried again. Fixed!

Apparently, the fuel pump was in contact with the side of the storage compartment under the seat, causing the sound to be amplified up through the compartment, so a little tweak and all is quiet. If only they could all be that easy!
