Weak spots on a late rs 50

Need to know what parts of the frame would be under the most stress from a higher HP motor and ideas of what could be done to brace it. I'm talking about the new style rs and derbi gpr frame.

    Thanks

    Nathan

I've been talking to CON regarding his 250 engine, shipping is really the only issue.

    does he still have that?

he is probs one of the best people to talk to on here about conversions like that, but look in the project section...theres a bloke who has about 4 Rs50s (old types though :s) which he races with Yz85, CR 85, KX 85 and some other engines which might give you a helping hand

Highly illegal mod in the UK to do mate, and i really dont see why you want to as wen your 17 you can get a 125cc bike anyway, but maybe you just want to be the next dead guy on here who fitted a 250 engine in a Derbi frame (you wont be the first dead guy from that, someone beat you to it already on here...)

50cc to 250cc is a huge step! There is no way in hell the frame would be stable/strong enough to perform well with that amount of power (still only 250cc at the end of the day). Just wait and get ya test!

i agree its one big risk and very illegal here in uk

    personally id buy a 125

i can see why you would fit a 85cc engine in but personally i think 125cc is a stretch even though CON has done a 250cc convertion

    did CON"s 250 conversion survive!!!!???

It's just as illegal as driving a derestricted bike. are you referring to spike? he had a CR500 engine which is much more powerful with a completely different frame. The bennelli frame is designed to take the 125 so with some strengthening and common sense I don't believe i'm going to be killing myself anytime soon...

yeah, i think its a verry bad idea, good frame or not, not worth it, high risk for road use, cops are not def and stupid and i think the penalty is pretty serious for it.

I'm not the sort of guy that tears up and down the road like a complete lunatic. I have some very good spots to use the bike around me that are off road. it will simply be a project for fun and i'd be only rarely driving it. Also you have to remember in the uk it will hold the same penalty as a big bore kit, It breaks less laws to drive a R1. I think it's fair to say it will be more of a display piece.

Lets keep on topic however please!

but if your not going to be tearing it up then whats point of doing a bigger engine conversion

I may be wrong but I read he went wide on a corner? If that's the case then it highlights the importance of only driving within your limits. He was a very unlucky lad and had some very serious crashes leading up to the very unfortunate incident. He seemed like such a great guy, RIP.

spose there is alot of different storys lurking the forum, we are just rying to point out this sort of conversion is dangerous in the way it puts sooo much strain on everything else...one thing to point out here which i hope you have thought about is fit better brakes!!!

anyway fair enough back on topic now for this conversion, better for us to help you the best we can to lower the chance of you killling yourself rather than just say its dangerous and you go ahead with it and have a bad crash yano. but we have warned you
