    High Compression Gaskets for RSV4

    Hi guys,

A friend of mine had his gaskets on his 2010 RSV4 R model start to leak. If I'm not mistaken, it's on the left side, below the engine block area.

Since he's going to be sending in his bike to get the gaskets replaced, he's considering using high comp gaskets.

Is this the correct one from AF1? Maybe someone from AF1 knows the price too? No price listed there.

    http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scrip...dCategory=2220

Also, anyone has any experience using high comp gaskets? Is it worthwhile doing it in the first place or just stick to the OEM gaskets?

I'd like your opinions and advice guys so I can let my friend know both the pros and cons.

    Thanks alot!

None of the gaskets on that link are head gaskets.
Stick with stock. Aprilia racing doing head gaskets you can buy but they are all thicker than stock

Is this because they they assume you are running high compression pistons already?

Yes depends which pistons you run. The 2-ring pistons they do require a thicker gasket. Its the same on honda hrc parts, most of the kit gaskets are thicker than stock.

    Thanks for the reply Tim.

I spoke to my buddy. His bike is mostly a track bike, with occasionally day use. He said the problem has only surfaced when he goes track. He has already changed to the OEM gasket atleast once before under warranty. He asks if there's is such a thing as High Temperature gaskets? I'm not too sure about this. He feels the oil leaks when the bike is pushed at the higher RPMs. Normal riding on road didn't have any issues occurring.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ah I see. It's rocker cover gasket leakage most likely. Common problem on early bikes. Might possibly be coming from airbox as early bikes had a poor design breather seal in generator cover. If rocker cover you can fit later covers and updated gaskets. Speak to af1

    Thanks for the reply Tim!

I'll pass it on to my friend! I can see why this problem is never resolved in the early models. Some dealers just keep changing gaskets when the issue is something more.

I'll see if I can get him to take a picture so the rest can see too.

    Cheers!

Ed was kind enough to take the time to reply my PM promptly.

    AF1 is awesome as usual.

For anyone else who has this issue, please ask your dealer to review the Dec 2010 bulletin.

These are the parts required to rectify the problem.

    new part #s
    898410 x qty 6 seal washer
    897443 x 2 valve cover gaskets
    857074 x 4 spark plug galley gaskets
898407 x 2 updated valve covers for R model, the Fac is a different # 898467 since they are magneisum

    3bond sealer is recommended too

As sent by Ed. Thanks again!
