Oh yes...1/2 a turn leaner on the idle mixture screw, needle clip position 1 notch from the top, my work is done! My son takes his cbt on Sunday, and i'm happy that this little bike is now ready for him to enjoy!
Thanks again everyone, esp Tora for your help. Without you guys i'd still be fiddling....
    Stay cool,
    Russ

oh and i checked the engine ref. It is stamped SENDAH
It then has a number beginning with H
I did write down the number, but left it in the workshop. Doh!

Thats should be a EBE050 mate, but not the one that came with your bike wen it left the factory i think... Senda is an off the road/super motard style bike, i think the Senda engine is the same as the GPR EBE050 engine but just has a difrent gearing and a kickstart as far as i know. (note they could have swapped the clutchcover for a non kickstart version on yours wen they swappped the engine)

    Cool Gattlestar Balactica

    Hey Russ,

Glad to be of service. Patrick is again displaying is wonderful lack of Derbi knowledge. That old adage of a little knowledge is dangerous rings true here.

Some of the GPR's did come with engines marked SENDA (as your empirical knowledge tells you). From what I've seen from these engines (and I have one myself) they are quite similar to the EBS050 engine. Now I have yet to crack open my SENDA GPR engine, or the EBS050 that I have so I haven't done any internal comparisons, however from the outside they are pretty much identical. I've ordered some rather fun hop up parts and will be opening up the EBS before too long. Expect a nice little thread of it on Bats.

The thing to remember with these small companies--pretty much anything is possible. I have some seriously deep Saab lore and they would even go down to the hardware store when they ran out of parts while building Sonetts.

As far as the number starting with an H, that's most likely the engine serial number.

Oh and as to Patricks failed hypothesis--the engines fitted into the Motards aren't machined for starter motors. Sure it would be possible to swap the clutch cover plate (where the kick starter mechanism is located), but that isn't where the SENDA, or EBE, EBS etc. is located on the engine cases.

Seriously the more I read from Patrick the more I'm convinced that the closest he's ever gotten to a Derbi is the pixels on his computer screen. I gotta give him props though--anyone that can come up with a never ending stream of feldercarb at least has a very active imagination. Speaking of imagination these sweet umbrella girls leave very little to it...

A: i said "I Think" and than you flame me again like i claimed to be sure that they never left the factory with a SENDAH engine ever.
B: It says "SENDAH" <- note the "H" on the end, unlike the Derbi Senda model name wich does not have the "H" stamped into it.
C: SENDAH is stamped into the engine casing where normaly EBE050 would have been stamped.
E: Derbi partlist claims they got difrent gearboxes while the rest of the engine (exept fot the aditional kickstart on the Senda XM/SM models) is the same, i never counted the number of gears wen rebuilding a GPR or Senda.

    Hey everyone....me again!!
Well the last couple of months have been great...my son passed his CBT, jumped on the little bike, and has done approx 6000 km.
All was going perfectly until Saturday night, when the bike broke down.
Got it recovered home, stripped the top end, and discovered a lovely 'V' shaped split in the piston crown, down past the rings. Bore has a crack between transfer ports, and piston has some serious scores.
Now looking for a new, replacement barrel, and piston kit, if anyone can recommend one?
    Cheers,
    Russ

When I put the thing back together, (new base and head gasket), should I be using any jointing compound?
    Cheers

    Cool I like the Airsal.

It looks like you've already picked one up. I've found that the Airsal kits offer a great value and can be modified for decent power as well. Of course you can run them stock too. :P

They also make the Airsal Xtreme kits which I've recently bought and intend to install once I have time. Nice thing about these kits is that they employ a stroker crank for a full 45mm stroke giving about 88cc's.

I've found that to be counter productive. Now I lube things up with engine building lube. All that other stuff messes up the gaskets so that you can't reuse them. The engine building lube (basically a low friction grease) seals up nicely and keeps the gaskets in nice reusable shape if you chose to take a look inside.
