    Hello from a newbie...

Hello all, greetings from West Yorkshire. just to introduce myself I am the new owner of a 1997 Pegaso, which I stumbled on by accident as I was actually looking for a Honda Dominator! Must say though, what a lucky accident as I really love the Pegaso - only had it three days but it's a keeper for deffo. I'm 47, but feel like a daft teenager on it.
I'll be looking for tech advice and info, but in the meantime, since mine came without an owners handbook, can anyone ppoint me in the direction of one, or a copy, or any other source of info on dimensions, capacities, adjustments etc? Also - I see a huge number of workshop / service manuals online, either paid or free, but am unsure which model they cover. Anyone recommend a good one? (My bike is the last of the Pegaso 2's rather than an early 3)
    Thanks!

    Peg3 Manual and Engine Workshop

I can offer 1999 USA Owners Manual that will cover MY '97-'00.
    No critical differences.

    Also Rotax 655 Workshop Manual.

Hi Stisma, The Rotax manual I found earlier, and I think I can get my hands on the 97-00 MY manual too. But - didn't realise that it was that close to mine, so thanks for that!

Welcome! Anytime you need any hints or tips feel free to give me a shout; If you need to compare anything on the bike or want any "hands on" pointers I am sure we can meet up at some point!

I have manuals on my other computer which I have lent out at the moment but may have the UK manual for 97 spec bike. Mine is a 93 spec bike which someone in the past decided to put a 97 - 00 fairing / tank set on so it looks newer than it is (if you disregard all the scratches!!!!)

    Cheers,
    Ste

Cheers Ste, you may come to regret that, Bolton ain't so far away...
Meanwhile - having sourced owners manual and service / repair manual (albeit for '97>) from www.carlsalter.com - gawd bless 'im - my next question is what are my options re aftermarket cans? I've seen a nice set of Marving Stainless & aluminium, but not a lot else. Will stuff for '97> bikes fit? I have also spotted a set of 97-00 venom cans on t' bay. Must admit tho', the Marving look nicer, and they're Italian too.

welcome bingoronnie,i'm a fairly new owner of a peg,02 ie.Used to own a capo, but due to job change needed a more suitable bike.Being aprilia,it could have some similar little niggles along the way, like starter soleinoid-coil breakdown, regulator overheating. But as yet i've had no probs.i've down 4500miles in about three months and it hasn't missed a beat.great little bike.
    Enjoy.

Haha, when you say Bolton isn't too far away, a usual day for me can involve anything upto 1000 miles in a day in the UK......... No it isn't a typo, I did say a thousand in a day; so thirty or forty miles across the pennines shouldn't be an issue!

As for your question on compatibility, my fairing / tank / side panels are from a 97 - 00 model bike whereas my bike is a 93; I am sure with a few tweaks anything could be persuaded onto your machine.

I would love to be able to afford to replace my exhaust cans and have been looking at some at demon tweeks - but have not asked them if they will fit (or are road legal) as yet!

I would say it might be worth getting a small (ish) socket set to save you some money in case your bike develops any issues. If you look at my other posts, you will see I have had a number of headaches with mine! Any time I get quotes for work on my Peg, the quotes are massive; for example, £550 for head gasket replacement - and that does not include parts - which would be gasket set (at upto £100), oil / filter / antifreeze / head bolts (at £12 per bolt for 5 bolts) etc!

    Cheers,

    Ste

Hmmm, am detecting a strong sense here of gleeful acceptance that owning a Pegaso means it's going to break down, not if but when. Hey ho - I wanted something a bit older to practice my spannering on (my Daytona 955i is really dealer-only servicing). Be careful what you wish for, it might come true etc etc....

    Hi Simon,

Hahaha, is that said with a sense of dread or anticipation????

It all depends on how you and the previous owner has treated it; and also luck!

If it is looked after (i.e. not ridden like some people use the road as a race track!!, I don't think it would keep up to the Daytona!) and serviced regularly you have a good chance that you may be able to leave the socket set in its wrapper (for now!).
    Cheers,

    Ste

    pipes/cans? I have

^ these ones, not overly loud (honest) but maybe not so good if you need to creep out early mornings as you might upset the neighbours

Welcome in bingoronnie it seems you could be in the right place for experience and advice

Hello Madoldbird - yeah, Gazelle cans I like, had one from him once before, for a Harley Davidson MT350. I've emailed and tried to phone him but I think he's on holiday, he seems to shut up shop for weeks when he feels like it. Do they come with the heatshields shown in the pics or are they supplied "bare"? And what sort of dosh did you pay (if you don't mind me asking)?
I have incredibly tolerant neighbours (or they're just old and deaf) so not worried as long as they're BS stamped.

    not at all bingoronnie
No heatshields on mine, they cost me about 200gbp plus VAT each, But it was a long while ago,
In fact looking through the peggysue folder it was 2003 according to the invoice from the shop that fitted it. For some reason I don't have the Gazelle invoice, just my notes after the initial phone call which says 200 plus vat.
This was when I first owned the Peg (before I sold her and bought her back)
Now you mentioned it, heatshields would be a good plan, and recovering the seat!
