Exclamation EFI Error - Please Help (video)

(i searched the forums for like 2 hours before posting this to ensure i'm not double posting)
    ---------------------------------------

Hi, I have a stock SR50. The other night it rained really bad and I left the moped outside.

In the morning when i tried starting the moped it putted, misfired and backfired. I figured it was just water and so it would burn off.
So i drove it around for the day, put 30 miles on it and the whole time it was running really bad. Also, anytime I let off the gas it would die, but start back up instantly with no problem.

Then once I parked it for an hour, I came back and it wouldn't start at all and was displaying a " EFT " error.
So i double checked everything was dried out and the spark plug was good, charged the batter (the battery's at 11.8). Everything seemed fine.

Here's a video of me trying to start it, please watch:

    PLEASE HELP WITH:
    1. How can I check the error code it's throwing

    2. Any ideas on what the problem would be?

.... Once someone answers #1, then I can repost the error code and reference it to the code sheets i found on the forum. Thanks in advance!

    First, Welcome to the Forum!!

If you haven't already done so, you should read through the Sticky "Read Me First!" in there you will find TONS of VERY useful information!!

A couple of questions for you:

    - What year SR50 do you have?
    - Is the battery in there the original?
    - Did water come up to the Water pump/Stator cover?
    - Is your bike fully de-restricted?
    - What Mods have you done so far?
    - have you done all the required Service Intervals?

And of course, what ECU codes, if any, did you find in "Active" and/or "Memo".

That EFI un-plugged symbol should only show up when your kill switch is in the "off" position...

You may also have some serious codes set... Your bike is trying to "protect" itself at this point. That's why you can't start it. Check the codes ASAP and report what you find!!!

Thanks for the help so far

Thanks for the help so far guys... here's what I found in the errors.

In "ECU Errors": all codes 01-07 had zero's for all active and memo
In "Dashboard Errors": All codes 01-07 had zero's ACCEPT, code 05 had an "X" under MEMO

... so ... according to my code sheet i got on the forum that should be one of these problems:
    • Throttle cable incorrectly Adjusted
    • Faulty wiring or connector
    • Check Wiring & Connectors
    • Damaged TPS

... based on the video, does anyone have any ideas of which one it is?
I'm not a mechanic so I'm lost so your help is appreciated!!

Also, @High-Gain, I checked the fuse that is next to the battery, it looked good. Should i try replacing it or maybe the port it plugs into is faulty? Or is there another fuse to check?

When you checked the ECU errors, did you toggle down the whole list (there are 1 to 20)?

    Checked all the Errors

ok, so i scrolled through and checked ALL the errors again and all if them were at zero, except "Dashboard Error 05" had an X on MEMO.

Then I cleared all the codes and tried starting it 5-10 more times. Still having the same problem.
Then I checked the codes again and now ALL of them are zero's and none are flagging.

Also, I checked the #10 fuse next to the battery and it was fine. even replaced it and still didn't help.

Any ideas? what would typically cause the Dashboard error 05 memo error to trip and cause the moped to run like this?
Also, could that of been an old error code since after clearing, no error codes are tripped?

You're help us MUCH appreciated. :-)

alright, i have a buddy helping me do a diagnostic on the electrical system.
Looks like there is no power getting to spark plug or ignition coil.

We are continuing to look, but really need a service manual for a 2006 SR 50 (USA).
Can anyone please help me out? I'd really appreciate it! :-)

Do you still have the EFI light?

If you have a volt meter or test light, turn on the key and put the kill switch in the run position.
Test for battery voltage at the red and brown wire at the fuel injector, air injector or ignition coil connector.

yes, the EFI is still on. I can test all those areas on the circut.
I know were not getting power to the ignition coil, but then we couldn't test more because we couldn't follow all the wires very easily. (hence why we need a service manual)

    Thanks for the graphic HighGain!
Is there anyway we could get me a full service manual too? If you can hook it up, i'll place an order on your site.
I want to get a new exhaust and air filter. Please let me know

You only need to check voltage at one of the connections... they all come from the relay and the EFI light is on because the ECU is not seeing a return voltage on pin 15.
Next will be to check for voltage at the relays red and black wire when flipping the kill switch back and forth.

thanks for the help guys, I showed my friend who's helping me with fixing it hand here's what he said.

    -------------------------
    "
we need to check that relay next

so i understand this schematic now, power comes from the battery over to the relay, which is activated by #26 (kill switch or key?), then over to the coil, then to the ecu.

so if i knew where #26, #1, and #21 components are located on the bike we'd be in great shape

    • I think #1 is just a plug and socket but not sure

    • #26 is the switch that activate the relay (small amount of voltage used to control large amount of voltage), where is that voltage coming from and what is it supposed to be?

      • i get the 12 volt from the battery into the relay and the 12 volt out to the ignition coil. i don't understand the control part of the relay which is #26

      • also find out where the relay is, it might be just right by the fuses

    "
    --------------------

Can you guys please help with these questions?

High-Gain - can you help me? could we call or email you about this? If you help me through this, I will buy my exhaust from your site. :-)
