    well, that didn't take long...

I love my Ape but I'll never buy the first production run of a bike again....

    Recall: Ducati 1199 Panigale

You know what they say about first-generation Italian motorcycles…Yes folks, the superbike of 2012, the Ducati 1199 Panigale, is having its first technical recall. Ducati North America is recalling 375 units of the Panigale because of an incorrect screw was used to attach the rear swingarm to the rear suspension linkage. The faulty screw could cause the swingarm to detach from the linkage, which would in-turn could cause a catastrophic suspension collapse.

Such an occurrence has obvious dire consequences for the bike’s rider, and as such Ducati North America will be contacting at-risk Ducati 1199 Panigale owners. Ducati dealers will inspect the bikes, and as necessary replace the incorrect screw, free of charge. Concerned owners can contact Ducati North America at 1-800-231-6696. As always, the NHTSA is available at 1-888-327-4236 and safercar.gov. Ducati’s safety recall number is RCL-12-004.

The "S" version is a bargain for what one receives: that is my considered (ignorant?) opinion. I think they are selling these like pancakes at a church breakfast. Would I buy one? No, but it is in the reasonable price range.

I think they are way overpriced too (along with the RSV4 Factory). My opinion is based on the BMW package and its price point.

Bmw doesn't include ohlins and lightweight wheels. The base model rsv4 and 1199 are within price of the bmw. You want overpriced, ktm must be on drugs charging 16.5k for a bike lacking the same features as the equivalent competition

It always sounds biased when I say it.

The wheel weight is only 1.5ish lbs between the two. Decent, but not a deal breaker for me. Ohlins from the factory are rarely the same as Ohlins through the aftermarket, quality wise. You end up with basically stock + stickers. You're better off in my experience just adding Ohlins after the fact. What you can't easily add to the Panigale is the extra 20hp that the BMW has.

I'll add though that I'd love a Panigale anyway, as another bike.

By the way KTM can be had for a LOT LESS. Try doing it with a Ducati, Aprilia or BMW (though I did it last year for a friend - $1000 less then MSRP out the door wo/prep or any other BS fees). I just got my friend 2011 KTM RC8R for less then $14K out the door.

If I had one, I could be sitting in front of the Starbuck's right now!
    Bikes:
    2007.5 Tuono-Black, with 1102cc's of micah's badness!
2012 Griso-Silver and black, Agostini pipe, some carbon bits.
2006 Vespa GT200-bitubo suspension all around, Malossi big-bore, head and cam, Akrapovic pipe, all put together by Micah.

gone 2002 Caponord-Oyster gray (as faithful as a hound dog)
gone Futura-Red (on the AF1 showroom floor. Get some.)

The more I learn about people, the more I appreciate rocks.

I was on the phone with an employee of BelissiMoto.com yesterday and he was telling me they bought an 1199 just over a month ago, so far he says it has been out of the shop for a total of 3 days. Said it was leaking oil out the side of the cases....and apparently NOT through mating surfaces/seals.

So far, they are less than pleased with it.

Take that for what it's worth....

Sorry you think it's intolerant of me to not tolerate your intolerance.

    - Don't go where trouble is likely to find you.
    - Some people attract trouble. Don't associate with them.
    - If you're minding your own business and trouble finds you anyway, do what it takes to de-escalate and walk away.
    - If walking away isn't a viable option, consider running.
    - If you have considered and/or exhausted all of your other options and you must fight to defend yourself, fight to kill.

I'd sooner buy an 1198SP on the used market than a new 1199.
2000 Tricolor, KTM Sprag, 16/43 sprockets, D.I.D. 525 Gold Chain, Rick's Stator version 2, RP collector modified with dual link pipes, Gabro F255 EPROM, Akrapovic slip on, Ohlins radial front forks, Falco clip-ons, 16mm Brembo radial brake master cylinder, Brembo four pad radial brake calipers, BrakeTech Axis ductile iron brake rotors, Integrated LED brake lights & blinkers, Ohlins rear shock with remote preload adjuster, Longer RS125 mirrors so I can see more than my shoulders and elbows.
