Lightbulb So anyone ever thought about a steering damper?

hmm so yeah had a thought its mainly cause the rs feels abit twitchy anyone ever fitted a steering damper? ive seen it done on a rs 125 but not on a rs 50 im not sure how it would go.

also was thinking of getting a rs 125 front brake master cylinder and clutch side lever too so i can buy after marker levers plus i think the master cylinder looks better and my bit where you screw the front brake switch is fucked. would that be ok?

also thinking of getting racing rearsets and modding them to fit

oh yeah and already have one side racing rearset but dont have the other its a TCM ill soo soo love to get the other side they look and feel amazing but im trying to find other models that will fit i dont think they were made for the rs 50 maybe for the 125 or 250? i dont know the sizes but gonna keep looking the rs 250 rearset looks like it will fit im sure these tcm ones are made for the rs 250

One hell of a tank slapper!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ1srcQMa_0

Oh and the twitchyness could be down to knackered steering head bearings...do you find it tends to follow the road alot?

is a steering damper a mod which is a damper fitted from the handlebars to frame?

see them on lightly modded Rs250"s, look a bit daft if you ask me unless there anodized blue and on both sides

there mainly for tank slappers, mine used to feel a bit twitchy, put a fat front tyre on it and it went a lot better!

It will slow your steering. If you want to try one the way to do it, is pictured above. You can do it 2 ways. Either have a bung welded onto your frame or drill a hole into the frame and put a nut insert in. Then all you need is a fork clamp, spacers and the proper sized damper and you are good to go. You'll need to make sure you get a damper that is long enough and will not affect your turning radius.

Really i don't feel you will get any real benefit out of it,. The bike is so light and is not fast enough and does not accelerate fast enough to get a real tank slapper. But you won't know until you try, right?. Because of the dampening, depending on its setting and what kind or damper it is ( progressive dampening etc), at low speed (pretty much anything under 40-50 MPH) it is really going to slow your steering. Quality Dampers are expensive too. A good side mount Ohlins costs about 300 USD....fork clamps are 25-50 USD. And a cheap damper will do nothing but actually negatively affect your handling.

No problem with it being twitchy, steering damper would ruin the RS50 handling i think, because its so light.

@Harrison: i really do not like RS50's with wider tires as there not nice in the corners, if the tire is whider it gets compressed more by the rims and wants to buldge, so if you take a fast corner it feels a bit like the bike falls into the corner wich is not a nice feeling imo. on top of that it ruins the handling on fast twisty roads, and reduces acceleration due to the greater mass, not to mention in case of the front tire it completly trows off your speedo.

Right so lets forget about the steering damper bad plan i kinda get what your saying with the low speed thing.

would an rs 125 front brake master cylinder be ok on my rs 50? i just like the look of them better and my bit where you screw the front brake switch has been drilled out for some reason so its cheaper for me to get the 125 one than the 50 plus i love the look of them and easyer to bleed
