Unless you put that engine into a bike then it's £76 a year.
Another example of bikes being ignored as green transport.

I see to recall that the ORIGINAL Tuono was around £18000 new......
Only 200 of them made (and yours ain't one of them FTM.....) worldwide.

This makes what we are offered by the the "high tec" bike manufacturers look truely pathetic,,, Aprilia v4 180bhp & 85ftlbs at 10,000 rpm 38ish mpg??? Bmw s1000rr 195ish bhp 85 ftlb torque @ 10k 40ish mpg? ???? Ducati panigale 182bhp 98ftlbs torque wow!!! 35mpg????

The fact that Ford aka " Dagenham dustbins" can make engines that destroy the efforts of so called bike exotica shows the stone age technology we are being fobbed off with, that it can do 56mpg when propelling 1.5 tons of tin is truely depressing!
Before anyone goes on about 185bhp forget it,,, 148ftlbs of torque at 2000rpm would rock your world on any two wheeler.....

Yes that is why I said put that engine in a bike and you will pay £76 a year. Bikes are taxed by capacity.

The only reason it makes that kind of torque with 999cc is because it is turbocharged. Boost pressure is a displacement multiplier. Motorcycle engines have the advantage of power to weight ratio. Would you want to ride a bike that weighed 700 lbs with that high torque triple?

"High tech" has always been relative. It seems to me that everything about the design of motorcycles is decades behind that of cars. Cars stopped looking like horseless carriages by the 1930's, but your average motorcycle didn't stop looking like a bicycle until the '80s. Electronic traction control for cars was introduced in 1971, but not on a bike until 1988. We could go on. Car manufacturers just have far more R&D resources, and motorcycle manufacturers just manage to play catch-up. Also, with cars, I imagine a new system doesn't have to be as refined, design-wise, before it's implemented, because it's a lot easier to find room for something under a hood than on a motorcycle.

Triumph makes just the bike for you of weight is not an issue but it takes them 2.3 liters to get those numbers ffrom a three banger. Personally I would like to see small bore turbo diesels come to market for bikes. A 1000cc diesel
trie or twin with 20-30lbs boost pressure would make a killer run roadbike that got amazing fuel economy too. Bikes are disgustingly bad at getting decent fuel economy these days, shocking bad. It seems to me most all bikes SHOULD be in the 50 mpg range in cruise on the highway. 99% are well under this target. DFI/clean 2t motors just might make an unlikely savior. Imagine, they would be the "green" option, the irony is not lost on me!

Just look at what just happened at the 24hr of LeMans to see what will be hitting the road 5-7 years down the line... Didn't we just speak about this with the NSX?
As the No.1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro of Andre Lotterer-Marcel Fassler-Benoit Treluyer took the chequered flag at exactly 1500 hours, Audi Sport today secured their 11th victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But this was historic for a number of reasons as it was the first win at the world’s most famous endurance race by a hybrid-powered car, it was on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the 24 Hours, and it was the first year that the famous endurance race featured as a round of the new FIA World Endurance Championship.
Audi filled all three places on the winner’s podium, with the No.2 Audi’s Tom Kristensen-Allan McNish-Dindo Capello in second and the conventionally diesel-powered No.4 Audi R18 ultra in third place. Mike Rockenfeller-Oliver Jarvis-Marco Bonanomi were the drivers.

I honestly think gas turbine hybrids have a future in cars now that hybrid tech is getting pretty refined. One moving part in the rotating Assy of the motor, only a few in the reduction box...with ceramics the potential for higher tthermal efficiency is there too.
