    Headlight broken?

I might buy a 2002 RS50 from someone, but he told me the headlight isn't working and said that he checked the bulbs and they were okay, and he thought it might be the relay. I was wondering, would this be a hard fix? Or to even diagnose the problem?

I might be wrong but A relay for a headlight is not very simple.
Looking at my bike the wires that go to the lights just go into a BIG bunch of wires and are never seen again.

    here is a relay http://www.adrenalin-pedstop.co.uk/p...lays-1481.aspx
But I am not sure where you would put that. If I was you, go and get some other bike that doesn't have an issue to start off with.

Have a look at Gumtree and Autotrader
this one looks good, may need to see in person before deciding http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-m...swap/104691317

I'm not located in the UK, so yeah, not possible. Well, he showed me a video, the driving light for the brake lights are not working also and he thinks it's connected to the headlight issue. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

The front and rear lights only work when the engine is running, apart from the obvious wiring, faults eg broken wire bad connection etc , it could be the coil windings or possibly a faulty regulator . It could also be a faulty light switch on your handlebar if the bike has one. ( some dont ).
If you know anything about how electrics work and have a multi meter its not too difficult to work through a wiring diagram and find the fault. If not you might know someone that could do it for you. Wouldn't take it to a shop as it would be expensive. Prbably the most expensive fault would be the stator coils ,other than that it shouldn't cost too much!

Could be, the fuse, the switch on the handlebar, oh and inside the frame you have this relay.

There should be a yellow in the middle i think, then you just try to switch the 2 at the sides.
    ex:

(just an example, I don't remember the color of the wires)
Blue Yellow Green (if this doesn't work then do this
    Green Yellow Blue.

I have had the headlight issue before

Thanks, if it's not that expensive, I might go ahead and buy it. Are there any tutorials or pics so I know what panels to take off to try what you said Michelet?

Yellow wire that comes from the engine/stator coils, check how much power theres on that at 6000rpm, it goes to the regulator and gets split up in power that goes to the rectifier to charge the battery, and the other goes straight to the headlights, taillight, and dashboardlights (light behind the dials).

So if you got a working taillight and dashlights than theres an isue with the headlight unit it self.

    Okay, follow these steps:

    1. Remove the seat.
    2. Remove the bolt on the front of the fuel tank.
    3. Turn the fuel switch to off. (turn it so the arrow points to the rear of the bike)
    4. lift the tank up and you will see the relay fastened on the frame all the way at the front.

    It's worth a try

He hasn't bought the bike yet! I think he was looking for some pointers as to what the fault could be and a rough Idea how much it would cost. If he buys the bike then you could talk him through the fault finding.
The relay Michelet is talking about is the regulator. Yellow wire to centre terminal, blue to the terminal marked earth. and green to the one thats left empty, cant remember which side the earth is but its marked on the back of the regulator.
yellow and green to terminals marked ~
Patrick I don't think the tail light works, he said the the driving light for the brake light doesn't work.

nicketynoo, I had the same problem on mine.. No electronics working, I swapped the 2 wires and everything worked perfectly.
    Thats why I suggested it
