    Distance on Low Fuel Light

Just wondering what distance people have traveled once the low fuel light comes on? I did 20 miles (32 km) the other day without running out. Of course, everyone's mileage may vary but once the low fuel light came on I was trying to be very conservative, I was cruising at 65 mph (105 kph) in 6th gear.

Just wondering how far I really could go before the end...

I try not to push it because I do mostly urban riding but I got about 25km and when I filled up I put in 15.5 litres. No one seems to be exactly sure what the true tank size is. I tend to play conservative and suspect the tank is smaller than advertised.

My low fuel light comes on pretty consistantly after I've used up 3 gallons of fuel. I figured it's more of a 4 gallon tank than a 4.5 gallon tank..... so based on that, I would have about 1 gallon of fuel left and my average mpg is around 27 mpg.... knowing that info, I wouldn't go more than 20 miles (25 if I'm really light on the throttle).

I ran out of gas last Friday on the freeway....two exits from the one I usually take Not a pleasant thing when doing 80mph+ and engine cuts out on you ...and you have to make it 5 lanes to the right while coasting with clutch in during peak hour traffic. I got to 112 miles when this happened. It greatly depends how one rides and usually my light comes on 75-84miles from the last fill up. I would not recommend anything over 30 miles (AT THE MOST) from the moment fuel light comes on. It shall also be noted that OBC mpg figures are at least 2-3 mpg on the optimistic side! Do yourself a favor and perform your own calculation from the last fill up to the next how much fuel you put in (same level) and divide miles travelled by the amount of fuel added. I normally get 26-30mpg (again depending on how greedy I get with throttle) comparing to 28-32mpg that OBC calculates. Fuel tank capacity on the V4 is in comparison to the Tuono V2 but that's the price we pay for all the other superlatives, I guess.

I use the odometer as my guide. 80 -100mi and I fill up. I've had the light come on anywhere in that range so I feel it's a safe bet. But I echo others in that 20mi is the limit on when that light comes on.

Like one of the other posters here I usually see the light come on between 80 to 95 miles. Haven't made it to 100 yet. I"m still in break in period less than 600 miles so I haven't even really reved it past 6-7000 rpm. I put about 2.8 to 3.0 gallons in before fuel is right at the top.
It really is my biggest complaint. Absolutely horrible. Sure is fun to ride though. It's like a cruel joke. A bike that makes you want to take a long, satisfying ride only to have the constant fear of running out of gas and eyeballing road signs like The Terminator for exits with gas station distances......

I managed 35km (22 miles) on fuel light a couple of weeks ago. Sport map but taking it really (and I mean REALLY) easy on the gas after about 15km on light....

Weird thing is, only got 14.74 liters of fuel in.....!

Still wondering if I should do a run-out test with a liter of fuel in my pocket just to see exactly how far you can get....

You know what.... I have noticed that fuel consumption is getting better as I get more km's on the bike. We're not talking a lot better, but I have noticed that after the initial run-in 1,000km, I'm getting a few more km's before the fuel light comes on.

Also, I just got back last week from a 10 day / 3,800km trip through Europe with some mates. I ran on S map the entire time and had a varied riding style due to 2 days being cold and rainy. I didn't notice any substantial difference whatsoever in how hard I rode the bike to how early the fuel light came on. I even think that I could almost guarantee that the fuel light was coming on between 165-172km and that I could definitely get another 35km on fuel light.

It might be thirsty, but at least it's reliably thirsty... Lol....

Advice, get a Nav system that has a reliable database of POI's including fuel stations. Works a dream to just hit nearest gas station when the light's been on for 15km and ride straight there. Removes all worries about running out.

I am also still in my break in period and have run out of fuel twice right around 100 miles, only to discover that my fuel level sensor is apparently broken. The sensor has been ordered until than I gas up every 90 miles. The computer indicated 26-28 mpg but even when I ran out of gas the tank, even if I fill up to the rim, only holds 3.9 gallons of fuel. Both the manual and online info indicates the tank should be 4.5 gallons???

Petrol tank is definitely NOT the advertised 17 litres. After totally emptying it so it was dry I managed to get 15.9 ltrs in it.

Tank range for FAST touring was 220km. It went to reserve at 167km. But it ran out at 215. I waited 30 seconds and shock the tank/bike and got another 3km before stopping again, then another shake and got another 1-2km then ran out again. One last shake and it restarted again and I got another km. Died down the main street and I coasted 150m to the gas station. Only had to push20 feet.

    Took 15.90 litres.

But for spirited rides I have gone to reserve at 145km and run out at 175

LOL i get 125km tops before the fuel light comes on and never let it goes past 140km. Tank definately 100% is not 17 litres. Fuel light comes on round the 10 litres used mark and i normally put 11-12 litres back in. I had an RSV1000R with the 17 litre tank and it was definately bigger and the fuel light wouldn't come on till around 190km

Something to think about.... those of you getting less than 167-170km before the fuel light comes on... are you running stock exhaust and/or maps? Or something special?
