Question Fuel tank rubbing triple clamp

Not sure what the cause of this is. Maybe head bearing installed wrong?
The tank is installed all the way back:

Here you can see the rubbing:

The rubber head/triple bushing is getting squished by the gas tank:

The bearing/triple seem to be pushed back:

My tank has done this too. Our tanks expand due to ethanol in gasoline I believe but there may be other contributing factors. Search on it, I have read other threads and there are some suggested solutions but I don't remember what they are now.

Mine does the same thing on one of my RSVR's and its fairly frustrating but I've never found a cure for that. I've read about the ethanol tank expansion thing and that's probably the cause.

When trying to reinstall I could not get the tank short enough to get the bolts in by the triple. The only solution I found was to grind the seat hook off of the rear bracket and flip it upside down, pulling the tank down and back further. Unfortunately there is no solution to this problem, unless I get a new tank (in bol d'or).

Same problem on my Futura. Not on my RSV though, but it has had an ethanol treatment added since day one though.

If left to dry out for a few months in a hot dry place with the fuel pump and gas cap removed your tank should shrink back to close to its original size. The ethanol in E10 gas absorbs water out of the air and then the PA6 nylon gas tank absorbs the water and swells. When the tank dries out it will shrink back to its original size or close to it. Several people on the forum have reported good results sealing the insides of their tanks with Caswells tank epoxy to prevent it from swelling again after it has shrunk back down.

Awesome, thanks for the reply Dan. I'm ordering a beat up tank off ebay to run until mine shrinks. Unfortunately san Francisco is not dry or sunny. Now I just need some matching paint...
