    Back on the CHAIN GANG

I started hearing a little low speed clutch out/in gear noise after this past weekends 1,000 mile ride. Bike has 13K miles on it and I'm hoping it's just time for a chain and sprockets. Although I have yet to look closely or even count teeth to confirm my gearing I assume it's the original set as the bike only had 7500 miles when I got it.

    1. How many miles are guys getting out of a set?

    2. I'm happy with the performance as is.... But is there a "HOT SETUP" guys are switching to? A particular gear ratio that really wakes the bike up?

    3. What brand do we like?
    2005 KTM 525MXC
    2006 KTM 200XC-W
    1981 Yamaha 175 Enduro
    2003 Futura

    1) I've been getting 15-18k from a set. 54k so far on my Futura.
    2) Personal preference. I'm happy with stock.
    3) Stick with name brands. I've not had good luck with AFAM branded chains, seem to last 2 seasons. Miles don't matter.

When you get your new chain and sprockets I'd recommend you fit a Scottoliler. You'll be amazed at the reduction in chain maintenance and replacement.

I've just returned home from a 1500 mile trip through France and Spain. The chain is as clean and well adjusted as it was when I left. There is a small amount of fling onto the rear wheel but no more than with most spray lubes and a lot easier to clean off again.

DID VM 525 Premium X-Ring Chain - 525x 108 Links and never lube it! Just clean with WD40 occasionally. It's been 9000 miles and no stretching.

So we all agree Mario & Luigi got the gear ratio spot on at the factory? BTW.... What is the stock tooth count?
