    plastic or metal tank?

So I am still battling with a leaking plastic tank months after draining it and rebuilding the flange with epoxy. Would it be better to try and find another plastic tank and seal the inside or purchase a metal tank? My bike is a 2000 Mille R. Next question will my fuel pump and fuel lid swap over to a metal tank?

I don't know...having said that though, I thought the 2000.5 had metal tanks?

I'm a little surprised you're still battling a leak frankly. The flange needs to be flat, but I can't believe after all of the effort that you've still got a leak. Doesn't make sense.

Base model 98-00 (including what we call an 00.5 here in the states) came with steel tanks. The 00 Mille R came with a nylon tank. The limited production Mille SP came with an aluminum tank. All 01-03 tanks are nylon.
2000 Tricolor, KTM Sprag, 16/43 sprockets, D.I.D. 525 Gold Chain, Rick's Stator version 2, RP collector modified with dual link pipes, Gabro F255 EPROM, Akrapovic slip on, Ohlins radial front forks, Falco clip-ons, 16mm Brembo radial brake master cylinder, Brembo four pad radial brake calipers, BrakeTech Axis ductile iron brake rotors, Integrated LED brake lights & blinkers, Ohlins rear shock with remote preload adjuster, Longer RS125 mirrors so I can see more than my shoulders and elbows.

    Ah, got it.

FWIW...while chasing my own fuel tank issues (pump, not swelling) I've found siphoning the tank to be very easy. I think for those times where I have a full tank of gas, but no plans to ride soon that I'll go ahead and drain the fuel tank and leave the cap unlatched.

Sorry OP...not sure that helps you.

Thanks for the siphon idea. I didn't think about that. I probably will just source another nylon tank and let it hang to dry for a few months and seal the inside. I started reading about some of the metal tanks having rust, etc which would be a whole other battle.

I never had rust but I sealed the inside of my metal tank years ago to prevent it anyway. Seeing all the nylon tank problems, If I were you I would find a nice metal one if you plan to keep the bike. The metal tank is a far superior material. Good luck

I wonder everyday if I should go to metal or not. I just want to make sure I can reuse my fuel pump and fuel lid off of my plastic tank.

Just check & see if the part #s are the same for the base model & the R. All the info is on the AF1 site.

Well if you get a metal tank and even if you need a different gas cap you can still keep your nylon one and let it dry out as others do. At least it is always a simple swap back. But honestly, if you plan to ride the bike much, the metal tank will never warp or leak and fortunately for you, the 00.5 is the one you can get. The other years it wasn't available.

00.5 base model bikes are not the only ones that came with a steel tank here in the United states. The first RSV models that were sold here in late 1999 as 2000 model year bikes were the same as the 1999 Euro spec bikes with the exception of a few of small things like 35w H3 high beam bulbs, and a better more stable side stand. They came in the same color schemes, with the same bodywork, red Brembo two pin front calipers, rubber brake and clutch lines and steel tanks as the 1999 European models. If I wanted to order a Cosmos blue replacement steel tank from the factory (if it is even still available from them) for my Tricolor Mille that was sold here as a 2000 model I'd have to use the 98-99 parts numbers.

You can put it out there but you won't be getting one from Yoyodyne anytime soon. They have been out of stock for quite some time. Click on the link and try to put one in your cart and this is what you get.
