    Low fuel light.

Anyone know when the indicator light is supposed to kick in? It always seems strange that I have never seen it come on. And as mine has a reserve position on the fuel tap, it almost seems pointless. When does yours come on?

There is a electrical connector on the left side under the fuel tank to the front. Look for black cable/wire with black connector.
It might be stuck/hidden under the tank.

I know where it is, and I know that the light works. I'm guessing that I may have a problem with the sensor itself though. But I wanted to know when the light should come on? While on main or in reserve?

When the reserve light comes ON there is about 3-5 ltr of fuel remaining
and then we switch to reserve position. The light will still be ON.

(the reserve light will come ON regardless of the fuel petcock/tap position,
if the fuel level reaches certain low level)

That's exactly the info I wanted. My suspicion is that the sensor in the tank is up the duff. Will try siphoning some fuel and see if the light comes on.

An easier way would be to turn petcock off, remove fuel line from petcock, position old clean glass jar under petcock and turn petcock back on to "On" rather than "Res", then when it stops leaking into glass jar replace fuel line onto petcock, turn to "Res" and start bike.

The light should come on straight away at that point.

    Cheers,
    Ste

    Hi Rob,

I think you have got the point, but to confirm the fuel light on my 2000 cube will turn on while swithced to main tank and stay on once the fuel cock has been swung to reserve.

The fuel light goes out once I've filled up independant of where the fuel cock sits, so yeah, no switch on the fuel cock, it's in the tank somewhere I suppose.

The 21 litre tank will use a bit more than 15 litres before the light comes on, I beleive I need to use 16 litres to be on reserve. I normally switch it over to reserve when the light comes on, and fuel up the next morning. Never run out or stalled.

So if you find an adjustment or something, thsi is an ideal way to set it up.

    Cheers,
    VSU21

Yep there's a fuel level sensor in the tank.

    Workshop manual link below.
