UK Weather forecast - rain for the next few months??? - MOD time?

Just seen on the news that the UK's weather is not looking too good over the forthcoming weeks , so I think I would like to spend a bit of time on the bike. Mines a completely stock 2009 DD, I have a couple of small jobs to do but would like to have a go at something that will benefit the bikes performance and/or looks

Any ideas for a relatively novice mechanic

I have been that soaked more than once on mine. It amazes me how planted it remains.

bringing this thread back to topic ....I've always preferred the look of the black exhaust shrouds over the silver and, as I have a spare set, thought I'd have a go at repainting them. As previously mentioned, I am not the most experienced but fancied my chances of a half decent job with some cheap bits from the local halfords (and an excuse to spend half a day in the garage with the DD) One of the spares was cracked, so I tried my hand at a plastic weld and was quite happy with the results. Both panels got a coat of matt black but I wasnt as happy with this result (purely due to my lack of experience in spray painting), think I chose the wrong paint (colour and type)

Couple of questions before my next attempt; Do you think heat proof paint is essential for this part (it does get quite hot)? Do I need to look for a specific plastic paints and are there any issues with priming and the effects of heat on the shroud?
