Advice needed in fitting race fairing tank cover

    Hi guys,

My 2011 V4 Factory is in the process of getting race fairings fitted for my upcoming trackday. Ran into a few snags here, and there but luckily got a great mechanic who knows how to improvise and make things fit.

However, we are at a loss on how to properly fit the race tank cover without scratching the actual tank fairing below. There's only one mount for the tank bolt on the race tank cover. He suggested putting 3M double sided tape or velcro on the tank, then fit the tank cover.

Any useful suggestions from you guys will be much appreciated. I want the tank cover to be secure, but not damage the tank below in any way if possible.

I have a similar tank cover , I covered the tank with plenty of (100 MHP tape) duct tape making sure to get extra cover on the tank angles . Just put on as much as you can and still fit the tank cover

i personally would fit foam. Helps take the vibrations.

You can buy squares of foam with one side sticky. Put on all edges, flat spots, basically everywhere possible.

    Then fit tank cover.

Thanks guys, a friend also just suggested using aluminium heat foil and taping it on all the edges, angles etc, where the cover would be resting against.

Bobrsv4r, LewRSV4, any issues with your tank cover while riding on track? I'm worried while I'm hanging off the bike, with my thigh resting on the tank, it might coz the cover to shift or watever. Sorry, just being very paranoid!

LewsRSV4, i get the foam idea, but where to get very thin foam? Hmmm.... We did think of it, but not sure where to purchase such a foam.

Thanks again for the replies guys!

You could use 3m clear vinyl paint shield on the tank. Can be purchased thru Amazon reasonably (1ftX6ft was only $40). Should protect against scratches when installing and removing!
Good to use on the front of the bike if you have your race body work painted, will protect against all the rocks and rubber that gets thrown at the front of the bike on track.

The roll I bought was a single piece but yes you could probably put those on ebay and sell them reasonably and make a little money on them!
Prices seem to run from $6.50 per sqft to $8 per sqft. 30 by 24 is a decent size sheet that would easily do an upper and possibly leading edge of the mid fairings.
Glad my post may have given you another opportunity to make a dollar or two.

I have to admit I have never seen anything like this before....

What do they cost and where does one get them? I only track my bike so the chances are always there that I may drop it somewhere along the way..... Are they strong enough to protect the tank?

    Hi Dave31,

I'm not sure where did the other guys get theirs, but I ordered mine through a local aftermarket parts dealer. These were imported in from China. I'm no expert, but it looks pretty good to me. I ordered the full set of fairings, all the edges are reinforced with carbon kelvar, as you can see from the picture.

I'm not sure how strong it is, I don't want to test it. Hahaha.
The full set set me back about 425USD.

I think you can find it on alibaba or some other china ebay sites.

Mate, that tank looks much better than mine.

Mine doesn't go under the tank like that. Can see the black part of the original tank at the seat area.
Not really a super nice fit too. Coz I had the protect the tank below with padding.
