Based on my experience as a paramedic, I advocate for full face or modular helmets. I only use modular helmets. Modulars are great if you wear glasses or like to lift the lid to talk to people or take a drink. You should read the webbikeworld reviews on helmets and helmet shape. I have a very large (63 cm) and very round head. I like HJC and Zeus modulars because they fit my round head shape. I am only rarely able to try on or buy a helmet at a shop: I usually take a XXL, and so few stores stock any modulars in that size. So I end up buying most of my helmets online. But if you have the chance, go to some shops and try them on for fit.

Cycle Gear has their Bilt Solar modular helmet on sale for $99:

    http://www.cyclegear.com/eng/product...met/web1001084

Removable liner with metal latches for the modular flip up front. Also has a flip up sun shade built into the helmet so you do not need to bring sunglasses eliminating the need to stop to put them on or take them off. Comes with a five year warranty too.

This is the one that I am considering.

I've literally lost count of the number of modular helmets I've worn out during the many hundreds of thousands of miles on my BMWs and Hondas since I started riding in 1964. Shoei and Shuberth (BMW) being my favorites. I wouldn't wear anything else, as I wear glasses and the convenience of slipping the helmets on/off without removing the glasses makes it a luxury I wouldn't want to live without.

A practical tip I learned was to apply a narrow (1-1/2" max.) strip of window tinting film to the inside of the lower part of the flip-up face shield on each helmet. As I almost always rode with shields tipped up and open (I rode with protective windscreens on all the bikes, providing a "calm zone" for my head), the tinting provided a very effective means of keeping the sun out of my eyes, without the need for wearing sun glasses.

A model with a removable liner is a plus also especially if you can get a spare liner so you have one to use while the other is in the wash. In the Deep South in the dead of summer that can be a real big issue when dealing with hot humid sunny days of riding at temps near to or over 100 degrees on the roadways.

I think I am going to try the Scorpion EXO-900 Transformer. I would love a Schuberth but there is no way I could afford one.

In March, I bought an HJC IS-MAX BT Helmets - Bluetooth Modular from http://www.compacc.com/Helmets.
They run a little larger than some. The 2X fits me fine, but Bilt helmets 2X don's fit at all.

It seems a little noisy, but I only have a previous 3/4 helmet to compare it to, and that was much noisier

I use an HJC AND A BILT - Both full face - can't convince myself to go modular. Both have shaded visors built in, which I like a lot - you can raise or lower as needed - behind your face shield - when its really bright I use a shaded shield also for extra glare reduction. WHite is an excellent color - very visible and cool in the summer.

I think that was one of the ones I was looking at. Was looking for a bluetooth but most seem to be BT ready NOT BT

I'm a bit past the pizzazz stage of life myself but I can remember them. Get the safe helmet that you will be inclined to wear. No sence getting one that you don't like and be tempted to leave behind in a closet.

Ahem! A bit of advice that underlies most of the replies here:

You're getting a helmet to protect your head, NOT as a fashion statement. Get one that fits well and feels comfortable. Good ventilation is a must for all riding except Winter. Consider DOT certification as a minimum (Snell doesn't certify modular; I don't know about ECE). If you want pizazz, get a solid color and apply aftermarket stickers.

Remember, ultimately you're looking to survive bouncing your head off pavement at speed.

I am not looking to give up safety for looks, but looking for BOTH... the solid color with stickers is a good idea.

Again I am looking for a safe helmet but if I can have safe, modular and pizzazz all the better
