Sounds like you dont have these fitted?
My silent blocks were all there and appeared to be aligned perfectly. It just seems that I'm missing the insulation panel. Item 25 on this parts list:

The larger blocks you suggested are a good idea though. I'll try that along with a panel and new tank probably.

Ask our sponsor here about second hand oil tanks,They often part out low mile bikes.
BTW,Mine has never had any insulation in there and that hasnt been a worry...
...I would think having more room for air flow a better idea
I did notice signs of a big drop after I purchased it...probably when it was removed
Yes I'd fit new silent blocks and check them regularly especially after any drops

I'm curious. I admit I have not looked at the oil tank, but there must be a breather somewhere? Otherwise it will pop with just a few bar of pressure. Could the underlying issue be a plugged vent tube?

AFAIK it uses a breather/s in the motor...and yes it sounds like it may be partly blocked...
...also cleaning the strainer on the end of the 'oil pipe' #12 could be worth looking at
while the tanks off.I've never done mine at 96k klm though.

Also if there's no insulation pad behind it,then its taken a big hit and had a
    repairs previously?

I've had my 2002 Capo since new, and I'm the only person who's ever laid a hand on it, aside from dealer setup. It has no insulation panel behind the oil tank. The parts fiche also shows an insulation panel between the coolant expansion bottle and its outside shroud - my bike doesn't have that, either.

What about #18, there is an upper hose, does that run to the airbox or is that the oil return hose

As far as the strainer, I pulled mine out at last oil change (as the service manual says), clean as new driven snow. Not a spec of anything.

I talked to AF1 today and they didn't have any second hand tanks unfortunately. eBay was no help either. Looks like I'll have a brand new one in 10-12 days. That figures. Nothing but sunshine here in Indy for weeks. Also, AF1 was unaware of the existence of that acoustic panel till I pointed it out on the parts list. They said they'd never seen one before. Interesting. I'll be sure to check for blockage before it goes back together.

Well she's all torn apart now and the strainer looks perfectly clean. Now I wait for my tank to arrive from the mothership in Noale. I'm pretty disappointed though. This Saturday I was invited to a MotoGP party at a new Irish pub in town. The Assen TT is on and the party starts at 6:30am followed by a group ride with some local bike club called the Storm Troopers Motorcycle Club. Sounded like some pretty cool people. Now I'll be arriving in a Dodge Magnum instead . . . . something else that isn't running correctly, haha! I think next time I'm in the market for a new car and bike it'll be BMW's all around. But then my tools will get all rusty ;/

Anyway, thanks for all the help you guys. I really appreciate it.

S'funny, there's usually someone advertising these things: I found these in Germany - sure someone local could have mailed one on to you:

Must say your experience is quite odd - both our Capos were in crashes of varying severity and barring one sheared silent-block, we've sustained nothing like what you've found on your bike.
That local club - could it have been the STROM Troopers? If so, they're a bunch of Suzuki V-twin nuts on DL1000s & DL650s. The guys I know are all great people - almost as one-eyed about their V-twins as Capo riders are about theirs!
And don't believe that a BMW will leave your tools to get rusty - it just ain't so!
I'd like to die on Mars. Just not on impact.

Tending to agree...I slammed my Capo down on a slippery concrete causeway with enough force to fling me off into the water,
breaking two of the three larger 'harley oil tank rubbers' I had fitted but no real damage to the tank...
New guy at work has DL 1000,nice sickle but oh so 'sanitized'...

I suppose I could've expanded my search more and found some outside the country. Not sure how much I would save after shipping charges though. It's ok, a brand new one will give me some peace of mind after this experience. I still couldn't find any signs of trauma to my tank after a thorough exam. I'm starting to think it was just born bad. I'll definitely pick up the oversized silent blocks this week. I've abandoned the acoustic panel after all the feedback I received. I will take a close look at the the breather . . . wherever it is. I could chase the breather tube down from the airbox and get at it that way probably. I agree, my experience has been an odd one for sure. I can assure you that I'm not imagining this. I've messed with cars, bikes, and airplanes my whole life and I've never seen anything quite like this. Seems that the structure of this oil tank has failed completely on it's own, excessive bulging resulting in crack, cracked upper mount tab. ???? It'll be a wind chime soon in the garage

When I read the name I thought the exact same thing but sure enough it is Storm Troopers. Maybe they're a bunch of Sci-Fi loving motorcycle enthusiasts, I don't know. Sounds fun though.
