Hi All, newb from VA with a matte black Tuono 1000 R

    Hi All,
A quick post to introduce myself. I'm Bob from northern Virginia. We recently purchased a 2011 Tuono 1000R up in Deep Creek, MD, and we currently have 476 fun filled miles on it. I posted a couple of pictures in the Gallery stickie. My son and I both ride, and we're really enjoying getting to know the Tuono. I also have a Kawasaki Ninja 1000, and had been yearning to add a V-twin to the garage. We test rode all manner of Ducatis and came very close to buying a Monster 796. Then I ran across the leftover 2010-11 Tuonos up in Deep Creek. The Aprilia seemed to offer everything we were looking for, and more, at an affordable price. So I did something I swore I would never ever do again after 30+ years of riding and motorcycle ownership - I bought the Tuono without a test ride. Well, in this case, taking that chance has turned out to be a good bet. What a sweet bike, particularly the light, accurate handling. With these few miles, we're still getting to know her, but so far so good. We did add a Laminar Lip windshield right away. My opinion is it works as advertised, and is an excellent value. We will replace the included zinc plated screws with stainless steel. I will endeavor to use the search function to maximum advantage, but I hope you will indulge my inevitable newb questions in future posts. Bye for now!
    Bob

IMHO, the search function is over rated. I say post your questions and ignore the crybabies that tell you that subject was covered once upon a time, back in the day, before the war, ect. If only the questions that were never asked before were posted, it would be a sparse place indeed. Re-visiting a old topic can be a good thing, it provokes new ideas and its new to some folks.

Yes! Feel free to ask us about what engine oil to use or what are the best tires.

Welcome! I really like those Ninja 1000s as well and was considering one. Post a pic of that up when you can. How does the handling and engine power delivery compare to the T?

I too considered a Ninja 1000 ABS, and I may yet get one. Any notable comparisons?

Welcome Bob! What part of Virginia are you from? I'm in Manassas Va.
Your bike looks like my bike but cleaner. My bike is on page 115 in the Gallery second post from the bottom.
Extreme Power Sports in Deep Creek is where I got my 600mi service done, nice place.

Don't forget the windscreens (if anyone makes a fitment for the Tuono, that is) ... and blinker fluid!

But seriously, welcome Bob! Great choice on bikes & nice first post.

Hi, I'm just getting back to the forum after being away for a few days focused on graduation activities (my son's, not mine!). For those of you who were asking about location, we're in Warrenton, VA so pretty close! It would be great to get together a ride sometime. When I get more time, I'll try to write up some thoughts comparing the Tuono and our Ninja 1000. Both are fun. But they are quite different.
