The type of poop they put on Australian ads

This is a recent "road safety" advertisement aired in Australia... as you could expect it got greeted with an uproar but it's just 1 in a line of many that portray the bike as in the wrong.

I hated seeing this add! I was outraged as it suggest speed was the only factor!

Scare tactics! Maybe they should advise drivers to stop and wait 1 sec.... 1 sec doesnt seem like alot but it would stop a lot of accidents let me tell you.

It doesn't seem like such a bad message to me. In reality, there are way too many moto accidents then need to be. If your ever in LA, just turn on the traffic report and you'll hear "there's a crash on the 405, 101,110,5, etc. This one involving a motorcycle" It happens everyday, several times a day. A trip to the trauma room sucks, but not as much as one to the morgue.

Totally agree. But these adds are stating it is always the motorcylce at fault due to speed... how about the goose driving the car coming out of the side street!

Not a mention of that.... thts all I am saying.

AMCN did a mythbusters take on it and put it to the test using an R1 and also a multistrada with abs and both could easily pull up before the car at 80 using proper braking techniques but would have hit the car using rear only at 60.

What a stupid ad and although I understand the point they are making, but the way it is presented is just plain silly. If we had forsight of what was going to happen and make alternative decisions based on knowing the outcome, there would be no such thing has accidents. They might as well say that if the biker had eaten one less taco less night, he would have spent 5 less minutes on the crapper this morning and missed the car. He'd be hungry but he'd still be alive.

Then again, maybe they should point out that if he R1 was doing 140 kmh, he would have cleared the intersection before the car even got here and not have to make an evasive manouever at all. Also, saying slowing down won't kill you is silly. Try telling that to the semi truck tailgating your ass.

Sometimes I wonder if lawmakers live on the same planet as we are on, or are they so deluded that they think we live in this perfect urban utopia roadways spoiled by people going a little faster than the speed limit.

Totally agree, if the bike was going faster he would have easily cleared the car without incident.

Typical Australian police/government bullshit! This kind of shit really pisses me off. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you ride a motorcycle in Australia, you are automatically labeled a criminal by the authorities. This Draconian thinking is totally out of place in this day and age. Fuck them, they can pry my motorcycle out of my dead hands! I will not give up riding and let them win. Run the bastards out of town I say!

Indeed... I had to go through peak hour traffic today so I pulled the bung out of my akro for safety... all I could think the whole way in was "am I gonna get booked" "that clown is doing 20 over the limit but if there's a cop he's gonna book me" It's stupid that we have to ride with fear instead of with a belief that the truly dangerous people aren't on the roads.

lol 4th gear bogged @ 4500 rpm doing 128kmh in a 100 zone. while im about the worst even i must admit they might have a point, even if not convayed properly. look at what were trying to pass as road bikes! the best i can do is shoot for less then 50kmh over to keep my licence. really, 2nd in town is about double the posted so i just let her scream at 7k in 1st which just creates other issues.
car passed me the other day doing just that, guy leaned out and yelled "learn to shift that dam thing". i wonder what he thought as i went by him at 12k. point is those are the tits making the rules for the rest of us.

To be honest he never blamed the Motorcyclist. He just pointed out that he would have indeed missed the car if he had of been going slower.

We need to remember here that it doesn't matter who's fault it is in these type of accidents we are going to generally come off worst:

We also need to remember we are riding ''missiles'' that Joey Public in his tin box can neither see or estimate just how quick they ''may'' be travelling, I saw a lad on a bike enter a roundabout (30 limit) at probably 70 mph, a car pulled out (he missed it) but he really gave the car driver some serious shit.
I honestly sided with the car driver, he just never expected anything to appear and be on top of him so quickly.

I ride as daft and quick as anyone out there, but we do need to remember that being in the 'right' but also dead just ain't going to work or pay the bills.

I guess I am saying there is a right time and place for going daft

my personal philosophy is i go down it was my own fault. buddy says but the bus cut me off. why were u there to be cut off? because he miss read the traffic and put himself in a vunerable position. legal error bus driver but still riders fault.
