Here is a picture of the connector in question. I haven't edited the picture, but it connector appears to be wired in series between the two relays.

    I think it's the anti-theft...

OK, just thinking outloud...the pump runs with no issues on 12v. I think I've eliminated that. I'll check and grease all connections. I suspect a flakey relay, so I'll replace those. I'll get a jumper for the side stand switch...

And the flog the piss out of her.

    Thoughts?

I'm freakin' stumped. I have no idea what the hell is going on with it...

I've rotated the relays...nothing. Pump works...I put it back in the tank, attach the tank...and now it won't run.

I'm at witt's in. What the hell am I missing? It's GOT to be the fuel pump being wonky, doesn't it?

are you 100% sure its not the side stand? try starting the bike with the clutch pulled in and see if that works? or you could have a broken wire in the circuit.

He would still get the fuel pump prime if the sidestand switch was cheesed.

Is the wiring for the fuel pump intact, nothing shorting out. What about the loom, has it rubbed on the frame and shorted out anywhere?

ah right, sorry i mis read that. i thought it was priming then not firing once he hit the button. mine did that and i was mega confused, turned out that it was killing the injectors while trying to start, but as soon as you pulled the clutch in it fired right up.

have you checked the wires that are in the potting compound that power the fuel pump? I'm troubleshooting a fuel pump issue right now and I've trace it to the wires that are at the bottom of the tank that plug into the main harness to power the pump. Apperently they wire solder can break inside the potting compound and cause issues.

I've had my bike die ~4 times on me and restart all be 1. The last time I was left with a dead bike and no pump priming. Powered the pump up separately and it fired up, thus it's the wires feeding the pump.

Just something else to check My seemed OK, but a bunch of wiggling and moving and I get no continuity through one of the wires.

    Hey gang,

Thanks once again for the input! Wires are sound...and look very secure. No obvious issue there. I'm just about convinced in a flakey fuel pump. I got it to prime two or three times...and then not run at all once in the tank.

No wires chaffing, rubbing...it's very, very clean and tidy...

Ain't that the truth! I went back out tonight, after it sat for several days. When I left it, the pump would not prime. Tonight, it primed. I refueled, turned the key and I let it idle for about two or three minutes. It then died...and now the pump won't prime again.

    I'm about convinced it's a pump.

I'm telling you man, check out these wires...

I pulled the pump off, I mean completely off and powered it using a 9v battery and some jumper wires. It spun up every time! Which tells me that the wires that are powering it are suspect.

Looks like a pump harness. What are we looking at?

I believe he is illustrating which wires he thinks the OP should be checking for continuity issues before the OP goes and replaces the whole pump unit.

Okay, you might be right. kwoody is chasing fuel pump problems himself so I thought his post was about his problem.

Sorry kzmille. Dan is correct, I'm trying to tell the OP that he should check out this fuel pump wiring harness before he purchases a new fuel pump. I suspect he is running into the same issue that I have.

I've gotten continuity and no continuity on the green wire, which would explain why its work and then hasn't. I've dug on the potting compound from the tank side and all looks good, I haven't dug it out from the bottom, although I suspect the issue on this side. After stabbing myself with a screwdriver during the process I kind of said F it

I'm not just waiting for a response from AF1 on what it the right part number for this harness, it appears there are 2 different part numbers and I can't seem to figure out the letter codes to understand which one is for my 02 Mille R.

Yeah, I was trying to figure out those codes recently in relation to which filter was fitted. I think the original filter fitment (plastic or metal) may be connected to which harness is used but can't confirm that. I suspect either one can be used and if there is no ground wire and a plastic filter is used a ground can be easily configured.
