    another new tuono rider

Just bought a new to me 2003 Tuono in red with 11,000 miles on it.

Been great, has some tastful mods I knew about,

    sargent seat
    frame sliders
    tinted screen
    arrow slip on exhaust
    ECU tuning

of course picked it up in the rain for the ride home

then I made a newb mistake and checked the oil wrong/overfilled it, and it started running very poorly. backfires, low power, but would then clear up when you got on it some. seemed like oil in the airbox was causing problems.

so lowered the oil level back to where it should be, then popped the tank for a look at cleaning out the air box.

it has an aftermarket airbox that I didn't know about, can any of you identify it? also what filter fits, as the foam filter is degrading and needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the help guys, also planning on new plugs, and the intake boot between the front throttle body and cyl needs to be replaced, it has started cracking, but no leaks yet. also ordering some valve cover gaskets for a valve clearance check shortly as well.

thanks for the help guys, searching for airboxes here didn't give me many clues as to what this carbon plate/filter is, reminds me more of a pod style that I have messed with on other carbed bikes, and less an actual air box.

The airbox looks like a hooked airbox, base plate, w/e. A guy in the UK makes these things. Hangs around on a UK RSV board, RSV Zone I believe. Great mod, awesome rumble underneath the tank when you flip the loud switch...

Nice bike. Welcome, and fek off!!

it does look like a hooked air box, any idea on the air filter, foam is dead. I've found people talking about pipercross filters but nothing really specific, and the website shows most of them to have only a single dzus fastener, rather than the 2 the current filter has.

thanks for the tip on where to look for info vondutch.

does look like a pipercross filter. you could put 2 singles over the individual trumpets. could be worse for power or whatever but its another solution.

Ah, to have a mere 11,000 again ... (sigh)

    Wafo, she's a beauty!

You might want to grab a stock airbox until you get things sorted. They're cheap, and some real smart folks around here say to only use them along with the OEM paper filters.

    Turned 98,000 last Friday.

Well the filter is dead, and my research, including calling piper cross netted me a lot of nothing. It is a piper cross filter, but they don't put part numbers on anything, so the rep I spoke to on the phone couldn't do anything but read their website off to me, two aprilia dealers and AF1 were no help with sourcing a part number/new filter either.

So I have a stock air-box en-route to fit back in, while I build a new filter out of universal foam from UNI and the original plastic base that is still in good shape.

The pipercross C3004 is close, but is about 50mm wider than the one I have.
    http://www.pipercross.net/competitio...ucts_px300.asp

anybody interested in a carbon renegade filter setup? may sell it if someone is interested enough in it.

other option is the socks over the throttle bodies, but I know the smaller your filtered air box volume gets the more issues with tuning that are created.

Thanks for the input on this, wish I had better findings on this search as well.

Probably a ITG filter, possibly JC10 http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/IT...443/index.html . Mine was a ITG but I can't remember what size, a search should reveal the different filter sizes.
FUCK THE MAGS Nuke the whales!

I see to recall that the ORIGINAL Tuono was around £18000 new......
Only 200 of them made (and yours ain't one of them FTM.....) worldwide.

Don't put socks over the trumpets/velocity stacks. You will lose 20 bhp or so straight away.

JC20-100 looks like the right size from that link. should measure the same as mine, just a pain to get on this side of the pond.

No reason I can't build my own filter off the solid baseplate I have, since the inner support is still good too. Just some proper glue and a good knife, thats about all that gets used to make these filters up in the factory anyway.
