    Frame Sliders

Now that my bike is fixed, I can finally get some miles on her. I'd like to get some sliders and am looking here for direction.

The previous owner had some sliders from Design Cycle Inc, apparently a guy on this forum that used to make them? It appears he is no longer active or making/selling these sliders.

The fairings have already been cut for these, so I'd like to get those, or other sliders that use the same mounting points.

    Any advice?

The bags make for excellent sliders, and will avoid contact of any other sliders you may have mounted. They still don't prevent clip on breakage though. Course, if you don't lowside on the track with bags on, maybe it's not an issue.

Years ago, I saw another Fut that had been dropped out in Colorado on vacation. Simple tip-overs can break off shift/ rear brake levers as well as mirrors. This guy was able to pick the bike up and continue his trip at the expense of scratched up bags and some other cosmetic damage. Maybe it's just as well you had those bags.

Get that big yellow box from Hugo yet?

Having used R&G sliders in the past (meaning mounted and crashed), they have a good sized puck that can take some punishment, but the bolt that mounts them will bend in a sliding crash. Not impossible to remove, but a bit of a pain. The real downside (at least when I was using them) is that you have to replace the entire slider, not just the puck. I could not find just the puck. You may be able to adapt one from another manufacturer, and find a bolt to replace the bent one. That may no longer be the situation, but with this bike out of production, I doubt if R&G would invest money in updating these sliders.

Kurt I believe can still make the sliders you have. Look at my profile and you can get his email address. I had issues with two of my left hand bolts that he provided though, and they were 12.9 hardened steel. The left hand slider just fell off when brushed while washing the bike, twice. The first time I'll take the blame, I may have torqued the bolt down too tight and stretched it, but after having to drill and tap the bolt out I made damn well sure when I put it on again it was to spec. Now I have to do it all over again. Since my bike was knocked over in a parking lot a week+ ago I'm in the market again for some new sliders. This time I'm going to buy the R&G aero sliders. I like the fact that there are two mounting points. Although the price difference is ridiculous, $90 for Kurt's, $180+ for R&G + longer to wait to come in.
